What to expect
Would you like to be immersed in nature whilst benefiting from exercising your body and growing your knowledge? If so, this eight-hour guided tour to Peperpot by boat, walking and cycling is for you!
Starting from being picked up and making your way to meet your bike for the day, hear the beginning of the guide's knowledge. Listen to the curious facts about the former coffee and cacao plantation on the other side of the Suriname river, not far from Paramaribo. You'll be surprised that it's not a pepper plantation, as you might think!
Cycle from the bicycle rental company to the Plattebrug where you'll board a wooden tent boat to Meerzorg. From Meerzorg, you'll travel by bike via the Oost - West verbinding to Peperpot. Learn about the two plantation homes on the factory complex, its coffee shed plus coffee and cacao factory. Witness the coffee and cacao trees now covered with bromeliads, orchids, and climbing plants and animals that have reclaimed the area. Spot the local birds, but if you are lucky, you can also encounter squirrel monkeys, capuchin monkeys, and sapakaras (giant lizards) on one of the paths that have been laid right through the plantation. See also locals selling different types of Surinamese fruits and vegetables plus indulge in lunch to complete your experience.
