What to expect

Are you ready for a jungle adventure in the mangrove forest of Suriname? You'll visit the Johanna and Margaretha plantation, taste a Surinamese lunch prepared by the locals, witness the nature of the marsh on a small swamp boat, and more - all in five hours.

After a late morning pick-up, you'll board a wooden tent boat and sail up the river to the plantations. There, at the Johanna and Margaretha plantation, you'll get acquainted with the traditional lifestyle of the descendants of the Javanese and Hindu contract workers on this former coffee plantation. Afterward, indulge in a Surinamese lunch prepared by the locals of Johanna and Margaretha.

Next, step onto a smaller 4-seater swamp boat and feel your excitement as you enter the marsh. Laugh as you try to spot numerous wild birds such as herons and ibises. You'll also witness the marsh vegetation with the roots of the mangrove rising above the water and the aquatic plants giving a distinct panoramic picture. After about 40 minutes, you'll arrive at the camp in the middle of the marsh where you'll taste local fruit, snacks, and non-alcoholic drinks. On the way back, depending on the season, you can admire the beautiful water lilies, and if you’re lucky you can also spot caimans. A chance to spot dolphins at the estuary of the Suriname and Commewijne River is also included to complete the experience.
