Starting from being collected, you'll meet your guide and hear how the Commewijne district is one of the oldest plantation areas in Suriname. Listen to the fascinating story of the second half of the 17th century, when plantations were laid on the Upper Commewijne and Cottica river, where mainly sugar cane, coffee, and cacao were cultivated. Visualize the past and admire the present whilst being driven from Paramaribo across the Jules Wijdenbosch bridge.

The first stop is at Peperpot, a former coffee and cacao plantation where you'll walk on the Peperpot Trail. After this, at the Open-Air Museum in Nieuw Amsterdam and former sugarcane plantation Mariënburg you'll step back in time to imagine the workers. In between these activities, you'll indulge in a delicious lunch plus drive past the old plantations Ellen and Leliëndaal. By the end of the day, you'll have increased your knowledge about the history of the old plantations and the remains that are sometimes hidden in the forest.
