Unfortunately 15th August was a Greek Festival day and after arriving was told due to this that there was no market and although the town is great a lot of shops were also closed!

We found Rethymnon to be a lovely town to visit and look around. We enjoyed wandering around the narrow winding streets and looking in some of the variety of shops. We found a lovely place for lunch and then walked up to the Venetian fort to have a look around there. Our only small issue was it was very difficult to hear the guide and keep up as we were following her through the streets at the beginning, so we missed some of what she was telling the people at the front.

The market pretty much sold knock off items or overpriced items geared at tourists so was very disappointed as I hoped to buy some local products at a reasonable price. It would’ve been moved to have had longer visiting so we could spend more time exploring. The bus also turned up late and had to ring to see if I was in the wrong place despite having confirmation that I’d be picked up from my hotel.

The town itself is stunning, loved the old town, visit the small museum if you have time. The restaurant we ate in is where the guide Isabelle (I think) sat was fantastic. The market was was full of amazing fresh produce, olives and olive oil. Worth a visit.

The market itself was not for us so instead, we spent our time exploring the old town. The old town was beautiful but I feel like you don't get enough time to explore properly when you go on excursions as you have to fit in food as well. It would be helpful if lunch was provided so that we could eat on the coach instead as time is so precious! Our tour guide was lovely and had a great character! We learnt a lot from here about some of the history in Crete and Dia.
