The Arab dhow has been a long-standing presence on the East African coastal waters. Traditional arab sailing boats, “Jahazis” were used by the Arabs for cargo trading along the Kenyan Coast and Middle East. They have since been refurbished as floating restaurants maintaining all the traditional aspects of the original Dhow.

The evening cruise begins at the Tamarind Pier at around 06:30 pm. Waiters welcome clients on board and usher them to their table where an in-house cocktail made with vodka, lime, honey, sugar and crushed ice is served. The non-alcoholic option includes the same cocktail served without vodka. The dhow leaves the pier just before sunset and the setting could not be more delightful. The dhow sails along the Old Town and Fort Jesus before arriving at a sheltered bay in Tudor Creek, where the dinner starts. A four-course meal of mouth-watering seafood, non-seafood and vegetarian delights is served. It includes grilled lobster, Jumbo prawns, fish, steak and much more. Tamarind is famous for its seafood cuisine. After dessert, freshly brewed Arabica coffee or tea is served in traditional Swahili cups together with “Halwa” a local sweetmeat. After dinner, the dance floor is open. Alternatively, you can enjoy a more intimate evening with your partner while the dhow sails back to the pier arriving around 10:00 pm.
