Sal Rei is a showcase of Cape Verde's mixed African, Brazilian, Creole and European influences. And you'll see it most clearly in the music, fashion and food. Led by an expert guide, you'll find out what island life, culture and cuisine is like in Boa Vista's colorful capital.First up is the Centre for Arts and Culture, where you'll find out about the island's folk music – morna. It's usually sung in Cape Verdean Creole, accompanied by clarinet, violin, guitar and a ukulele-like instrument called a cavaquinho.Learn about the history of the Cape Verdean people in the Museum of Naufràgos, then stroll past pastel-coloured houses to the vibrant municipal market. From the lively locals bartering back and forth for the best price, to women washing clothes on the pier, it's a real snapshot of island life. We finish off by sampling some local delicacies at a colonial-style guest house – an insight into the island's Portuguese past.
