What to expect
Holbox Island offers 36km of pristine white beaches washed by emerald-green seas. On this exclusive excursion, you'll discover spots like Isla Pasion on a private boat and enjoy lunch at a five-star eco-resort. There's also a golf buggy tour of the island to look forward to. Ariel, one of our local guides on this tour, says, ‘Holbox is a habitat for more than 300 endemic and migratory species. It's also something of a playground, with activities such as speedboats and beach buggies.'Board your boat at Chiquila – piloted by a local fisherman – and be whisked off on a two-hour coastal tour. Every other company uses the local ferry. Your guide will point out places known for their wildlife and explain what efforts are being made to preserve this habitat. And if you're doing the tour between June and September, you may be lucky enough to catch sight of the island's flamboyant flamingos. Plus, you'll discover the beauty of the secluded beaches of Isla Pasion and Punta Mosquito, before heading to the eco-resort for lunch followed by downtime on the sunloungers.Once your batteries are recharged, you'll hop into a golf buggy for some fun exploring the surrounding area. To round off your visit to the island, we'll make our way to Holbox's laidback main square for some free time – it's a great opportunity to pick up some souvenirs or sample local food. You'll then return by ferry to Chiquila and on to Cancun.

I’m a solo female traveler also the only guest from Coba that went in the trip today. I felt very looked after, safe and secure. The tour guides were fantastic, all the stops were delightful, lunch and a swim at the hotel were spot on. I can’t fault this day at all, highly recommended!!

Once we arrived at the boat for the trip to Holbox the day went very well, our guide was excellent and we had plenty of time at each stop to explore and enjoy the island. However the transfer was complicated by the need to stop and reorganise the mini buses to ensure each one contained guests of the same nationality/language which in turn relied on the mini buses all arriving at the same time. The impact was to add an extra hour to a two hour journey.

Trip information says over 8 hours. It actually was 14 hours, leaving the hotel at 6:30am and no breakfast. Only offered coffee and a muffin so no food til lunchtime at 1pm. Then got back to the hotel at 8pm. Guide was very nice and knowledgeable. Island pretty but shopping in Holbox was too long. Tui guide at hotel was not helpful and we would not recommend this trip

The trip was good. The rep Debbie was excellent, first class. Kept us informed all the time & really looked out for us. The only downside was due to the previous bad weather we couldn’t get a golf buggy & the roads / tracks were flooded & full of mud. It was messy to walk around & view Holbox.

Betty our guide was very enthusiastic, knowledgeable and brought a great energy, overall we really enjoyed our day particularly the buggy driving however our personal preference would’ve been having more free time in the main Holbox square rather than some of the other ones arts of the island, the food was great but we were only give one muffin until the main buffet at 14:00.

The whole experience was great. The guide was very informative and the schedule was brisk but eventful. Only negative was the hotel we stayed for lunch, the meal was good but we were told we could use the loungers on the beach and there weren’t enough around the pool.

Our guide, Wolf, was superb! He was funny, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, spoke about 5 different languages, was so kind and happy to help. Best tour guide we’ve ever had. Holbox is the most stunning place we have ever been. It’s a must see. Unfortunately the initial transport was 25 minutes late but after that, the excursion was brilliant! A very long day from 7am until 9.30pm but a thoroughly enjoyable day.

An absolute paradise. Holbox island felt like a whole different world. A real touch of Mexican life. The only point to note is that we didn’t realise it was so far from the Riviera Maya. Took around 3-4 hours to get there with all the drop offs and transfers of mini bus. It was well worth it though.

Our guide Roald was great - the scenery is breathtaking, the golf buggies are so fun, the timings were right we had plenty of time to explore and enjoy - maybe a bit too much time at the hotel on holbox, we ended up cutting our time short and doing more buggy riding because we wanted to head back to the boat before the storm rolled in. At the hotel lunch soft drinks are included (prepoured, flat and warm), no other drinks included during the time here (2hrs) - just include them!

Thoroughly enjoyed the trip our guide Karina and driver Edwardio were brilliant very organised from Pick up from our hotel to the stop for coffee half way onto a small boat to visit the beautiful isle of mosquito swim stop onto Holbox time to look around onto our golf buggies great fun lunch at lovely hotel on the brach back to fast ferry for our return and back to hotel a full day out left at 6 am got back about 6.30 pm but fantastic and Holbox is beautiful

Walking around Holbox was lovely but we only had an hour, I was not impressed by the 2.5 hrs at the resort at the end it was far too long. I didn't pay to leave me resort to sit in another and no towels provided for the sunbeds which were covered in bird poo

Our guide Adrian was fantastic and really made our trip 1st class! I don't think you really give enough information on the tour and what it includes, as a non swimmer I never get to go out in the ocean as am too fearful, however this trip included a stop at Punta Mosquito which was out to sea but in really shallow water, I've never experienced this before and it was amazing, you really do not do the tour any justice with its write up.

Absolutely blown away by Holbox - the guide Frederica was so friendly and helpful. The boat trip was great, saw so much wildlife. Loved the island itself, the lunch and time on the beach was glorious. I didn’t realise that we would be actually driving the buggies ourselves, but this was so much fun!! I definitely want to return to Holbox.

Holbox is an amazing place dreamy turquoise sea up to your knees, super soft white sand and the vista just goes on for ever. It’s like those places you see on telly that you don’t think really exist but here at Holbox it does! Our only negative is that it was too long between food stops; pick-up at 7am (too early for breky at hotel), a piece of cake 1 hour into journey. Next feed 14:30! Everything else was fantastic, driver; excellent, guide; friendly, informative, knowledgeable.

The tour was well organised. Its a long day especially in hot weather however it is excecuted well. The speed boat and the islands was fantastic. Holbox itself is a interesting place and driving around the town in a golf buggy is a great expereince. I did this tour 5 years ago and it is better this year than before.

The island was beautiful and we are so glad we visited. We expressed our dissatisfaction with our guide to the group lead, who was reluctant to speak to his employee in front of other guests. It’s a shame because we felt we did not have the full experience of the island, as our guide neglected us throughout the visit.

It was a long day but well worth it to see dolphins, flamingos and puffer fish. The guide was excellent and the boat trip over was great. Being able to explore Holbox was a good experience. Could maybe have had less time at the hotel where we stopped at the end for lunch but that’s probably a personal preference as I’m sure some people enjoyed spending more time on the beach

This was such a great trip. A long day but totally worth it. Saw two islands and Holbox was SUCH a cool place. Very chilled and very idyllic. Beaches were beautiful, saw dolphins on the crossing by boat. The chosen hotel, for lunch and free time, was lovely. Would recommend this trip and definitely recommend a stay on the island (wish we had). Well worth the money for this trip.

A little on the expensive side for what it is, however, as a guided trip around Holbox, Playa Mosquito and Isla Pasion, we had a great day! Damian, our guide was fantastic, he didn't over-talk but gave enough info on what we were looking at and what was going on. The golf caddy ride to and from the buffet was fun, scenery was great, parts of Holbox felt like something out of the TV series "death in paradise", very tropical and blue skies/waters. It's a shame the TUI app doesn't give much info.

Couldnt fault the guide, he was fantastic ! We was lukcy enough to see many flamingoes and even an osprey - the wildlife was the highlight of our trip. The golf buggys werent available due to flooding on the island, we wasnt quite prepared for the amount of walking in the heat

As we booked through the TUI site we had limited information about the trip like transfer times and itinerary. Talking to people on the trip we all agreed we could of missed Passion Island. Yer it’s a lovely island and it is good to see the natural wildlife, but you were eaten alive by mosquitoes. When we arrived at Mosquito Island we need not expect to get dropped off in the sea. My partner and a few more passengers had mobility issues, so it was very difficult to get on and off the boat.

The guide was incredible. She was very knowledgeable. The trip was lovely however we only found out about not having the buggies until we were on the bus heading to Holbox. (We understand it was weather permitting) It just would have been beneficial to know in advance so we could have packed appropriate footwear due to all the walking. The trip is advised as relaxing but it was far from.

Good tour guide .helped with the whole experience. Wasn’t happy that we were told to leave the beach lounger by an hotel staff member saying we were not allowed on the beach even though it was part of the excursion and other people on the tour were allowed to use the beach and loungers. Very embarrassing and made myself and husband feel awkward . We are black and wasn’t sure if this had anything to do with them treating us like that ? Not happy about that

Guide was great, we really enjoyed Alex sharing with us a history of Mexico while we were travelling on the bus. Unfortunately the beach buggies were unavailable for our trip which would have been a good thing on Holbox island as weather was very hot and there was a lot of walking in the midday sun. We feel TUI when advertising this trip should mention it is not relaxing as some other travellers thought. Overall we enjoyed our day out but felt it was a little expensive for a family day out.

Loved all the experience however the main reason we booked the tour was because of the flamingos that seemed to be heavily shown in the booking of the excursion. After speaking to the tour guide she said since alot of tourists visit its very hard to see flamingos as the population has gone down from over 100 to only a handful due to unguided tours and scaring the flamingos away. We booked this excursion heavily based on the flamingos.

Overall the trip was good and we both really enjoyed the beautiful islands. However, the first island we visited we were taken through a forested area. Both me and my partner are covered with severe mosquito bites. We have both struggled to sleep because of them and have had to spend the whole of today inside trying to cool down the bites. We were not told at all that this island could be covered in mosquitos- If we were told we would’ve ensured we covered ourselves in repellent

The First two islands were beautiful and the speedboat was insane Getting to holbox itself was a disappointment, being left in an area where it was run down and not a lot going on wasnt ideally the excursion we were informed of. A buggy tour what was not a tour only a way of transportation to the restaurant which was also false advertising! Finally food at hotel was cold and limited while having the last 1 hour and a half at a beautiful beach which was incredible but no sunbed as for guests only

We really enjoyed the trip,the driver was great and our guide Dominique was friendly and very knowledgable making sure that we knew exactly what was coming up and ensured that we were told when and how long the different elements of our trip would be/take. The stopover in the boat at the island Pasion was lovely. We enjoyed the tour in the golf buggies to the hotel where we had lunch, the food was fantastic and we had time to relax afterwards. I would highly recommend this experience.

Loved going to Mosquito island, doing the buggy tour and having lunch at the 5 star eco resort. It was so beautiful. What could be improved on was breakfast. The trip was early and when we arrived at the place for food, only had 2 slices of watermelon and some coffee because other groups had eaten everything. Tip: eat before you go!

The island itself (especially the sea points/stops) were beautiful. Lunch and the time to relax in the hotel was great, and we really enjoyed the buggy rides. I think only issue is that the trip is over-sold in terms of the possibility of seeing wildlife e.g. flamingos while in reality this is very unlikely. Other things to think about when booking is just the length of the day. Tui should also make people aware of the need for face masks still on the ferry.

Carlos was an excellent tour guide! Really informative and helpful, telling us all about the history of the island and the wildlife. He was really friendly and made the experience unforgettable. The excursion lived up to the advertisement and the only thing I would suggest is that you provide a rough travel estimate to and from the destination. It was a long journey for us from Cancun.

The islands themselves are beautiful and an experience. But our trip was so badly organised. When we “stopped” for coffee and breakfast. There was no coffee or water and 1 piece of bread each. Bare in mind it’s 30 degrees outside. The hotel we eventually got to on holbox was packed. 45 minute queue for food. No drinks outside had to pay. It then took 4 hrs to get back to our hotel after the guides left the bus at 6 as they had finished. Driver got lost. Not worth the money, if private transfer was available 100% do it.

We were booked for Saturday, unfortunately my partner felt sick and couldnt make it , but TUI managed to rearrange it for Monday. We left in morning and stopped for first top and we been told it got cancel due to the weather. Totally understand and it was rainy and windy. Went back to tui and told will get fully refunded

Whole trip was excellent, well organised, interesting and fun, tour guide was good, friendly and knowledgeable. Would have preferred some good local food rather than an all inclusive hotel buffet, some authentic Mexican cuisine I feel would fit in with the trip perfectly as Holbox feels more like "real" Mexico. But overall really enjoyed the day.

Part of this trip was cancelled and we wasn’t made swear or this until we had traveled almost an hour on the transfer. Other TUI holiday makers had been made a-wear of this. I am still awaiting a refund which was done by the rep at the hotel

Had the most amazing day. I would recommend to anyone visiting Mexico. To top it off we got a free dolphin show on the ferry back home. Amazing!!

Great beautiful place. Great views and place to be. Day was a little disorganised and timings unclear. Very early start to collect people round hotels which is annoying.

This was such an amazing trip- Katie the guid was so good at explains everything and making sure we didn’t lose her at any time. The island is amazing. I don’t think she could improve on her service that she provided. The only thing I would say is when we first got on the transfer bus the guy spoke French and English and he gave more details about what was going on then he did in English. I only know this as my mom is French therefore she could translate and understand what was being said. Also towards the night as we didn’t get back till 8:20pm to the hotel the guide got off at 7. I thought this was really rude of him as he should have seen us all off. This made me feel a bit uneasy.

Beautiful islands with a true unspoilt Caribbean feel. Fantastic guides and well organised, with delicious food at the beech hotel they took us too. We were able to get out into the sea on a few occasions and the sea birds and scenery were beautiful. The only thing I would change, is to have had more than 30 minutes of free time in the town, as this was not enough to enjoy the beautiful bohemian shops, building and cafes. Extra time also supports the local community as I would have been spending money there if I’d had the time. We are a family of 3 and our 11 year old also enjoyed it, especially the bouncy golf buggy.

Knowledgeable guide. Fantastic lunch was grateful for as my hotel did not provide gluten free room service as requested for the early start and first stop on trip was bread and cake. I took crisps and banana . Bus very uncomfortable we were last two on the bus and had to squeeze in . Return journey a little better. We would definitely recommend this trip .one of the best trips we have had .

We loved the island. Reading the description of the trip prior to booking we had an impression that the transfer was quite short - just to the nearest port. Instead it took almost two hours with many stops. We enjoyed the ferry more than the little speed boat as it didn’t feel very safe travelling as a family with a toddler. The time at the various stops is very limited and we would have enjoyed having more free time on the island. However, overall it was a good day and I would recommend the trip.
