What to expect

Discover the remarkable collection of the Bargello National Museum in Florence. This museum dedicated to applied arts is located in the heart of Florence in Palazzo Bargello, which was built in 1255 as the seat of the city's administration. From pre-Renaissance to Islamic art, discover an extraordinary collection of artifacts, paintings and objects from various historical periods made of precious materials.

The Museum of Bargello has its collection divided into various halls, each with a chronological theme, and each room is dedicated to a certain century and/or artist. Great artists like Michelangelo, Carrand, Donatello, Andrea and Giovanni della Robbia have rooms dedicated to them and to artists who are contemporary with them.

The museum is located in Palazzo Bargello, which was once the center of Florence's justice system and the city's prison. The prisoners were mostly held in the Volognana Tower, whose bell was for centuries used to call the men to battle or to announce capital executions. In 1865, the first floor of Palazzo Bargello became a public museum and since then the collection has expanded exponentially.
