Self-guided driving tour from Miami to the Florida Keys
Validity:
Flexible
Do this because
- Drive across the Florida Keys listening to the audio-commentary
- Visit Key West and discover its uniqueness
- Stop along the way to admire the coral reef
What to expect
Download the audio-guided driving tour of one of USA’s most famous and classic road trips, the Overseas Highway US1, over 113 miles, either ending or beginning at Key West.
Along the journey, the audio-commentary will track the story of how a determined Henry Flagler fought engineering, financing, hurricanes and some ridicule to build an Overseas Railway. Those tracks forged the initial route and became the foundation on which the road was eventually built upon. Hear how famous musicians, writers, adventurers and other characters have also been charmed by the Florida Keys and Key West’s unique location and way of life. During the ride the commentary will point out areas to keep your eyes peeled for the endangered Key Deer, the smallest of North American deer, suggest beaches to visit like the lovely Bahia Honda, and places where it will be possible to admire the coral reefs like John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park.
Once in Key West, appreciate the brightly coloured Key West style houses, including Ernest Hemingway’s, which is open to visit, and take some time to wander Duval Street. You’ll quickly find yourself slowing to the Key West pace.
