What to expect
Explore the distinctive mangrove maze of Khao Garos in the north of Krabi on a spectacular, eco-friendly kayak trip through narrow canyons to the hidden lagoon of Ao Thueak and into the Bat Cave. In the afternoon you can cool off by taking a dip in the crystal-clear stream of the Tha Pom Klong Song Nam swamp forest where freshwater meets the salty Andaman Sea water during high tide.
Start by paddling into the bay of Khao Garos with your local guide. Enter a maze of mangrove surrounded natural waterways that are connected to the Andaman Sea. Admire scores of steep, bizarrely shaped karst formations protruding from the mangrove forests and venture into small passages, follow the course of the river until you reach the secret lagoon of Ao Thueak where you can take a refreshing dip in calm water. You´ll also visit the natural attraction known as ‘Bat Cave’, Next head back to the pier and enjoy a typical Thai-style lunch in Baan Rai Nai Suan. Then it´s time to cool off in the swamp forest of Tha Pom Klong Song Nam where you can walk on a nature trail along the freshwater stream. The stream is freshwater springs mixed with the salty Andaman Sea water which is why it is named Tha Pom is called Klong Song Nam (meaning “two water canal”). The thick roots are well suited to handle an unpredictable mixture of fresh and saltwater.
To finish, the wooden walkway will guide you through the crystal-clear water in the mangrove forest, providing the perfect spots to take some photos to remember this special day.
