What to expect
Living in the coastal subtropical waters around Sal, lemon sharks are one of the easiest sharks to spot in their natural habitat. You'll venture out to Shark Bay with a marine biologist to interact and learn about these fascinating creatures on this half-day trip.After pick-up from your hotel, you'll drive to Shark Bay over on the east coast of Sal where your lemon shark experience will begin. You'll wade out into the water with a marine biologist, who will guide you step by step and teach you all about this incredible species.Spot their yellow-tinted skin – ideal for camouflage in the sandy shores – and watch them as they go about their business, twisting and turning, and looking for fish just a few feet away. You'll see their fins cutting through the surface of the water and get to know these sharks closer than you could imagine.

We took over 7 year old son on this experience, it was so interesting to learn more about the Lemon Sharks and get to see them up close in the warm shallow waters. Nice touch was the certificate given to all the children attending the excursion.

Great experience, the only downside was the poor quality of the water shoes for hire. They were very uncomfortable and it was difficult to stand up in them whilst in the water on the slippery rocks. If I had known how crappy the shoes were I would’ve taken my trainers with me.

The guide was excellent, and knowledgeable. I think we should have been told before the event that we were likely to get wet up to the hips. Although interesting, we only got to see baby sharks, and not full-sized adults, close up.

Very informative guide who was a marine biologist. The sharks swam around our legs and feet it was a great experience. I am glad we booked with TUI as our guide showed the sharks in their natural habitat. Some local guides were using inhumane ways to attract the sharks which I did not feel comfortable with. Great job TUI!

Had previously done another trip (4x4) and was familiar with the route to and from the location. The guide was very knowledgeable providing interesting facts and insight to the Shark's life and habitat. We were treated to seeing both young and older larger sharks in what was a memorable experience. Nothing negative to share really and overall good value for money.

Our guide Hannah was very informative and interesting. Unfortunately our trip was in the afternoon and the tide was out. We only saw 4 baby lemon sharks on this excursion. There are too many people all in the water at the same time and other tourist groups try to take over the space! The walk out across the rocks is treacherous! Wear very sturdy waterproof shoes! Try and book the morning in hopes of getting high tide and more sharks!.

Our marine biologist was so friendly and informative. She was very safety conscious making sure we took it carefully entering the sea as there were rocks. I loved the experience of seeing the lemon sharks in their own habitat. Much better than in an aquarium. Well worth the experience.

The guide Ilsa was helpful, engaging and knowledgeable. Driver Jack was helpful and friendly. One seat belt did not work but we did not mention it at the time. Amazing experience to see the sharks at ones feet. Lovely that they send you free shark pictures if you email them afterwards.

We enjoyed the warmer sea water and exciting seeing the baby sharks and seeing the adult sharks in the deeper water, we enjoyed enough time in the water. The bus driver was helpful and didn’t mind some sand being brought onto the bus! The timings were good and we would recommend the trip to other people.

We loved the shark experience our tour guide Kalina was very knowledgable and clearly very passionate about her job! We got to see the Lemon sharks up close and learn a lot about the species and marine life of Cape Verde! We also loved that it was so heavily focused on being ethical and making sure that the sharks were not being touched or baited.

A good trip, saw lots of sharks swimming very close to people's legs. A very knowledgeable guide. This nothing to do with the company running the trip. The only down side were all the wooden shacks on the beach selling their usual tat.

The guides were friendly and informative. It was a great experience being so close to the baby sharks. The only additional advice that might be useful for guests is that you can get wet up to your waist so swimwear may be a good idea under a tshirt.

Don't believe the picture you see on the site that shows the sharks around your feet on a sandy beach. It's terribly rocky and difficult to walk through the sea to get to see them - you have to wear thick soled, closed toed water shoes to get there - you can hire these for 3EUR when you are there. Our guide was knowledgable, friendly and helpful. Good excursion, reasonalbly priced but not suitable for people with mobility issues.

The experience was sold as lasting 2 to 4 hours. Yet we were back at the hotel within about an hour and a half. Furthermore, the biologist didn't really tell much about the sharks, other than the very obvious things.

you need to be clearer in the trip description that you just wade out into the sea and hope to see sharks, it’s not guaranteed, the sea is often quite rough and you get really wet , the guides were helpful but not shark experts

Great trip, picked up at specified time. Very knowledgeable and friendly guide. Saw lots of baby sharks and even saw larger sharks (saw their dorsal fins) further out. This was our favourite trip. Including transfer the whole trip took about 2 hours and was worth the money. You can hire your water shoes for 3 euros (croc style) or wear your own.

In a natural Beaty spot to see the wonderful lemon sharks the area around it was filled with rubbish. Maybe Tui could start a volunteer group amongst staff or encouraging locals to fill up a bag for €1. Maybe local school could do a litter pick up charity day. Plastic is a killer to wildlife - needs to get sorted xx

Glad we chose to book via TUI as some of the locals we saw gave no insight and just use bait to bring the sharks to you for photos. This is not helpful for their survival when they leave the safety of the bay. We managed to see lots of baby sharks and respectfully enjoy them without having to interact with them and tempt with food. Our guide was knowledgeable and gave information that meant it was more than just photo ops.

It was a most enjoyable, informative, awesome experience and enhanced by the guide (the lady from Berlin) who gave such a good delivery on the conservation work, the life of the yellow shark, and the perils of life in the sea for the sharks. Was really good has me and my partner went but anyone who is not good on there legs or feet it’s a definite no !! Very slippery and going over the rocks for us was really hard going a couple of ladies turned back after a while .
