What to expect
Meet your guide at your hotel and discover the amazing past of the castles and abbeys of Normandy.
Start your tour in the heart of Rouen's historic center and stop at the Notre-Dame Cathedral. Destroyed during the Viking invasions in 841, then partially destroyed in 1944 by Allied bombing, the cathedral is a living building in perpetual evolution. The choir of the cathedral houses the tombs of the Dukes of Normandy, including that of Richard the Lionheart, King of England, and Duke of Normandy.
Continue your private tour with the rue du Gros-Horloge and discover a Renaissance treasure. Take time to admire one of the oldest clock mechanisms in Europe!
Then, go to the Gaillard castle, a ruined medieval castle overlooking the River Seine built by the King of England and Duke of Normandy, better known as Richard the Lionheart. You will have lunch (at your own expense) near the castle before continuing your tour by visiting two abbeys untouched by the passage of time.
Visit the Jumièges abbey, one of the oldest and most important Benedictine monasteries in Normandy. The remains of the Romanesque abbaye de Jumièges are amongst the most beautiful ruins in all of France. Finish your excursion exploring the abbey of Saint-Georges de Boscherville, in which various vestiges of this abbey retrace a history of more than 2000 years.
