Enjoy a morning tour of Mombasa, the city dates back to the 12th century when spice traders from Arabia crossed paths with the southern part of Africa along their trade winds. Begin your adventure in the heart of the city, where you’ll encounter the iconic elephant tusks monumental structures that symbolize Mombasa.
Learn about Fort Jesus, a historic fortification built by the Portuguese in the 16th century to protect their trade route and continue to explore the historical Old Town, experiencing the fascinating fusion of Swahili, Arab, and Portuguese influences. Stroll through narrow streets lined with beautifully carved wooden doors and colourful buildings. At the local market, be captivated by the array of spices, fruits, and vegetables on display.
Pass by the beautifully adorned temples and visit the Akamba Handicraft Centre, where you can admire the skill of Akamba artisans through their stunning wood carvings, sculptures, and traditional crafts making for unique souvenirs to remember your visit.
Enjoy lunch at the Tamarind Restaurant or aboard a dhow. In the afternoon, visit Dr. Rene Haller’s Nature Park (Haller Park), a reforested former quarry now home to various wildlife, including giraffes, hippos, and giant tortoises. You’ll have the chance to feed the giraffes, with feed available for purchase at a small fee. At the end of the tour, you'll be transferred back to your hotel.
