Enjoy a full-day tour to the Makasutu Culture Forest, a palm forest situated on the banks of a beautiful meandering tributary of the River Gambia. The area counts many different ecosystems including dense forest, savanna and mangrove regions. This special ecosystem is home to hundreds of different birds, 3 species of monkeys, monitor lizards, pygmy deer and man goose just to name a few. If you are lucky enough, you may catch a glimpse of migrating baboons, that each year choose this forest as their home.

Upon arrival at Makasutu, you will be served a light refreshment. Continue with a visit to the wildlife museum and learn more about the initiatives aimed to preserve this special ecosystem. Next, you will take a trip down the river on “dug out” canoes while drifting down the waters seeing wildlife, fishermen and women collecting oysters from the mangrove.

After the boat trip there is the opportunity to go on a “bush walk” where you can see some of the flora and fauna of the area plus a chance to see the palm wine tapper climbing the tree with a traditional rope.

Continue with a drive back to the camp where you will enjoy a local lunch consisting in some of the best African dishes including Benechin, Domada and Yassa. During lunch, traditional dancers and drum troupes will entertain you performing on the natural stage under the shade of the majestic Baobab tree.
