What to expect
If you want to have a general overview of the 'Most Beautiful Villages in France', this tour is made for you.
You will begin your day by walking through the most charming and traditional markets of Provence (depending on the day of your visit). The order of the visited sites will change accordingly.
Take time to stroll and explore:
- on Tuesdays in Gordes, a picturesque hilltop dry stone-built village with its Renaissance-styled castle
- on Thursday in Roussillon, a colourful village with its ochre cliffs
- on Fridays in Lourmarin, famous for its Renaissance castle
- on Sundays in l'Isle sur la Sorgue, also name as the The Venice of Provence and the capital of antique dealers and flea markets
For lunch, you will have free time to choose if you want to have some typical dish at a terrasse or explore the small village.
After this break, you will head to Fontaine de Vaucluse. There you can walk up to the cave where the impressive river Sorgues emerges. You will then arrive in Roussillon, you will be in awe with this charming colorful village which houses are painted with ochre, once the biggest exporter of this natural pigment in the world.
One of the last stop of the day is Combe of Lourmarin well-known for its 15th century Renaissance castle.
If you visit from mid-June to mid-July only, you will the chance to admire the amazing lavender fields in full bloom at the 12th century Cistercian Senanque Abbey.
