What to expect
Did you know that La Gomera was a port of call on Christopher Columbus' cruise too? On this tour, follow in the footsteps of the great explorer as you discover the island from the perspective of a total newcomer. Things get going as you drive to the centre of San Sebastian town – the capital of La Gomera. Set out on foot with your guide to view the most interesting buildings here, beginning with La Casa De Colon. This is the house where Columbus spent quite a bit of time before leaving Europe to accidently ‘discover' America while looking for India. Continuing the walking tour, you'll stumble across the oldest church on the island – Iglesia de la Asuncion, which is where Columbus and his crew attended mass before setting sail. After around an hour or so of walking, it'll be time to enjoy a coffee break before heading to the bus to start a scenic drive of some of the islands best viewpoints. Starting off with a drive through the famous Natural Monument of Los Roques located within the Garajonay National Park. This place gives a perfect example of volcanic up-thrusts, eroded over time and offers wonderful panoramic views of southern La Gomera. The drive continues with another stop at Mirador El Rejo, with vistas over the Hermigua Valley and the neighbouring island of Tenerife, including the impressive Mount Teide. The day wraps-up with a leisurely drive back to the ship.
