What to expect
This private full-day tour takes you first into the island’s only national park to walk along its nature trails and amongst some fascinating wildlife. You’ll arrive at the forest in Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park in the mid-morning ready to step foot on territory that’s home to endangered red colobus monkeys, bushbabies, duikers, butterflies, and birds. And once you’ve got your eye trained on the treetops, you’ll be in for a chance of spotting these elusive creatures as you make tracks through the park.
Afterward, you'll head to Stone Town. This UNESCO World Heritage Site boasts African, Indian, European and Arabic influences, making it a beguiling place to explore. Your guide will lead you around while pointing out landmarks such as Darajani Market, the main bazaar in Zanzibar, as well as the former slave market and Forodhani Gardens where you’ll be greeted by views over the House of Wonders – a former sultan’s palace. There's also a pit stop at the Tanzanite Museum, where you'll explore the history of Tanzania's famous Tanzanite gemstone, a unique treasure found only in the country.
Meanwhile, your guide will fill you in on popular inhabitants such as Princess Salme, Farrokh Bulsara and Bi Kidude. Last but not least, you’ll pass by the Old Fort before finishing up with some craft and souvenir shopping.
