Join this tour discover what the ancient Azorean whaling traditions were, and learn how they transitioned to nowadays wildlife observation and research practices and even to a unique sport.

The experience will start with a short presentation of the local whaling culture, before visiting the authentic whaleboat “Senhora de Fátima”, from 1945, the only fully operational evidence from the '40s in São Miguel. You'll then take a van tour to the whaler lookout “Vigia da Furada”, where you'll learn more about the whale spotting techniques, back from 1830, which helped evolve the Azorean Whale Watching to one of the best techniques in the wolrd. You'll even be able to test it yourself using some specialized, long-range binoculars.

After, you'll visit the Ponta Garça’s Lighthouse, from 1957, and enjoy a guided tour with interesting facts about the building and its importance for maritime activities and sea men, as well as the beautiful island and ocean's views. Don't miss such a unique opportunity!
