Suiboku-ga ink-wash painting workshop in a Japanese teahouse

Experience the Japanese ink-wash painting technique of Suiboku-ga in a relaxing and comfortable environment while enjoying Japanese green tea during this hour-long workshop.Suiboku-ga is a form of Sumi-e ink painting which uses washes of ink to create texture and contrast and is one of the few types of painting styles that does not use numerous layers of paint. Suiboku-ga is said to be a painting technique from the heart, as its simplicity allows one's heart to be reflected directly in the painting. It is filled with the Japanese aesthetic sense and spirituality. In this workshop, you'll learn the basic techniques of Suiboku-ga and embrace Zen spirit.This introductory course puts you the student under the tutelage of award-winning artist Rensui, who will teach simple methods of painting, such as finishing with a single brushstroke. At booking, you'll get to choose which object you'd like to paint on, so get ready to move that brush. A theme will be chosen from one of the following types of paintings: pine, bamboo, plum, orchid, chrysanthemum, and Chinese "kanji" characters.
