What to expect

The ancient world comes to life during this small group excursion to Ephesus and Sirince. The classical Greek city of Ephesus was the location of one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World – the Temple of Artemis – while time seems to have stood still in the pretty mountain village of Sirince. Gökhan, one of our expert local guides, says "it's easy to imagine you're walking in the footsteps of the toga-clad crowds that chattered in the streets 2,000 years ago – the archaeological site of Ephesus is so well-preserved, you'll feel like you stepped back in time."You'll travel into sun-soaked hills and olive groves to discover one of the most extensive and complete archaeological sites in the world. On arrival at Ephesus, you'll wander down marble-paved streets, gaze at mosaics in ancient Roman houses and admire epoch-defining buildings such as the Library of Celsus, the Temple of Hadrian and the Grand Theatre. Your guide will explain the historical context and point out the most interesting features. You'll also walk through the museum here, too, which is filled with digital exhibits that're designed to help reimagine what Ephesus looked like back during its golden years. It's a little less ancient, but a sense of yesteryear permeates in Sirince village. Here, you'll have lunch at a typical restaurant before enjoying some free time to explore. We'll round things off with a visit to a ceramics factory to see how Turkish pottery is made. Marvel at the precision of the master potter – working only by eye – as he decorates and paints traditional pieces. It's one of the best places to snap up some authentic souvenirs and support local livelihoods.

Excellent

The guide was really well informed, very friendly, told us what to be aware of, stopped several times to point out things of interest & gave us time for photos The breakfast and lunch was excellent, the local people so friendly The guide told us that the marble was slippery, but we didn’t realise how slippery it was, we did manage to stay upright The virtual rooms were amazing There was so much included in our day it was tiring, but so enjoyable

Transfer was good with rest stops. Guide was good. The food was awful. Lunch was covered in flies when we arrived at the restaurant.

Tour and guide was great and very informative. Only issue we had was the food. Breakfast was not eaten by most of the group and it was just vegetables. Lunch was not eaten either as when we arrived for lunch the salad was already left out uncovered and full of flies. Also lunch was mainly just salad again with little protein substance after a long day walking in the heat. Not value for money at all.

Excellent

Amazing experience to visit such an important ancient historical city. Food was beyond our expectations. It is a very long day but worth it. If the mini bus is completely full the 2 outer rear seats were difficult because of the intrusion of the wheel arch. Guide was excellent ??

Great

I liked our guide, Al's enthusiasm and knowledge and willingness to share and explain. Our driver was careful and considerate. The lunch was a bit lack lustre and the visit to the village a non event. I found the ceramic visit interesting. But the main visit to Ephesus outstanding.

Guide (Adpar) was knowledgeable, very good communicator, humorous & interesting. Overall it was a long day but to see a World Heritage Site it was well worth it. Suggestions 1. Plate of salad was small for breakfast, perhaps add toast. 2. Lunch was disrupted somewhat by dogs which worried some group members. 3. 3rd stop was very interesting but as it was very close to lunch, perhaps choose a stop halfway through the return journey, so that travellers would have time to recover before the stop

Our tour guide Ipe was amazing. Such a fount of knowledge. The minibus we went on had a few issues with a/c and so we were uncomfortably hot for all of the journey there and some of the way back. The driver and Ipe tried really hard to sort it out though. Would definitely recommend this trip!!

Great

The breakfast was not worth having, it was a British group and we were given tomato cucumber and olives for this meal with a bit of bread. The lunch was unforgettable as well, the starter was nice but we hadn't finished that and we were given our main course which most of it was cold. Our dessert of melon was given to us before we finished our main course. I had food poisoning from the chicken as it wasn't cooked properly and my wife refused to eat it. Overall the restaurant was very poor

Long drive, can be uncomfortable for tall/big passengers, breakfast wasn't that appealing. Apart from these few negatives, the tour went well. Prompt pickup, guide kept party informed throughout the whole day, Ephesus itself is a sight to behold

The lunch was awful and there were no toilets available. We had to drive to a service station. Sirince is not a picturesque village, it is a big shop. I wish we had started a bit later and had more time at Ephesus. The guide was good.

Excellent

We enjoyed the free breakfast but it was to the taste of all in our group. There were additional items you could buy (pastries etc) which they opted for. The ceramics workshop was incredible and sirince is an amazing village, highly recommend their fruit wines. Ephesus is huge, our guide was fantastic and so knowledgeable. It was a very long day (13 hours with 6 hours spent on the coach) but absolutely worth it.

We enjoyed the overall experience; however the guide was unable to answer any of our questions, regarding the history of Turiya and Ephesus which she was speaking about. It was if she was going by script. The breakfast and lunch was a disappointing experience mostly salads. The ceramics workshop was amazing, the Ephesus was dreamy and Sirince was a picturesque bazaar. We loved the over all experience much worth it! Definitely do it!

The day was good apart from the guide changing the schedule on the day which meant we had too little time at Ephesus. We particularly wanted to see Ephesus but the time was cut short by 30 minutes which meant we did not get to see the mosaics. We were very disappointed.

The trip was quite long from our hotel just outside Marmaris, approximately four hours. The journey was broken up by lunch and breakfast and a trip to a local pottery. The long journey was certainly worth it. Our guide, Gokhan, was outstanding, knowledgeable, informative and approachable. Ephesus is such an important historic sight that it was worth the effort to see it and is did not disappoint. To have stood on the same streets and market place as St Paul was unforgettable.

Loved the Ephesus. It is spectacular by any standards. The guide was brilliant, I think his name was Shawn, Turkish speaking several languages fluently. It was a pleasure to listen to him. TUI booking process though is getting worse. There was no rep. Website didn't show any excursions from this hotel. We booked over phone, and were given incorrect information about collection point. Family ended up walking 20 minutes in the complete darkness through a dodgy area at 5am to a different hotel.

Absolutely fantastic trip to Epheus, very knowledgeable guide Sane who managed to take us all over the site , at times avoiding the crowds . Unfortunately the trip did not include church of St .Mary even the guide was baffled as to why it wasn’t included , and also other tour operators in the area wondered why not ? Even though it was a long journey from Sarigerme it was well worth it . The only criticism was the breakfast , slightly poor quality.

The guide was really lovely and knew so much about the area and history. The ruins and architecture was amazing to see. The only thing we were disappointed with was that we didn't get to go to the actual museum to see the statues that were found at the site. It would be nice if this was included. Also it is a 3.5 hour coach drive from Marmaris but doesn't mention that anywhere on the booking info.

Great

Trip was fine but three things. 1) warn people to take sensible footwear, the marble floors in Ephesus can be extremely slippy 2) it is may be unsuitable for people with mobilty issues and/or heart and breathing difficulties. There was a lady on our trip that was struggling 3) the final part of the journey was in a minibus between Marmaris and Serigerm. It had no aircon and opening the windows didn't help much

My tour consisted of just 9 people which was a great number for this type of trip. Our guide Gorka was excellent, extremely well informed, and his affable manner made the tour all the more enjoyable. Ephesus is a 'must see' location. Breakfast and lunch stops were very well organised. Quite a lot of travel time but the journey was helped along by our guide's interesting talks on local interest topics and Turkey in general.

This was a great day out and Ozan our guide was brilliant. He was so knowledgeable and we learned so much. Ephesus was an amazing site but take an umbrella for shade and plenty of water and sun lotion as there isn't much shade on hot days! Sirence was a lovely village but it's quite steep in places. Our lunch there was really nice. This is a long day; we were picked up at 6am and didn't get back to the hotel until 7pm, however it was well worth it.
