What to expect
The Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, and the treasure-packed Egyptian Museum are all on the menu for this history-loaded full-day tour of Cairo. Prepare to be wowed by the timeless marvels of Egypt’s capital, an epicentre for all things Ancient Egypt. Ayman Prince, one of our local guides and Egyptologists, says, 'Even after countless visits, the Pyramids and the Egyptian Museum still blow my mind. The fact that we still don't fully understand how they built the pyramids back then is mind-blowing. It’s like witnessing a miracle.'
After an early start, you'll roll into the Giza Necropolis. Home to the iconic trio of pyramids, this UNESCO World Heritage Site takes Egypt straight out of the textbooks and puts it right in front of you. With your local guide, you'll explore the epic history of the pharaoh Cheops. Standing under the Great Pyramid – the largest of the three – you'll feel so small while soaking up those jaw-dropping desert views. You'll also check out the pyramids of Khafre and Menkaure before standing in awe beneath the legendary Great Sphinx.
After lunch, it's off to central Cairo to visit the Egyptian Museum. With over 100 exhibition galleries, it houses the world's biggest collection of pharaonic artefacts. Stroll past statues, jewellery, relics, and aeons-old mummies, getting the inside scoop on the daily life and religious practices of ancient civilisations. And don't miss the showstopper – the golden mask of Tutankhamun. It's the perfect way to cap off the day.
