What to expect
Your tour begins at the site’s entrance, where you’ll see the ancient wall that once surrounded Chichen Itza. Next is the iconic Temple of Kukulcán, designed to honor the equinox. Nearby, the Great Ball Court awaits—where Mayans played a fierce game using a 20-pound ball!
You’ll then pass the ominous Wall of Skulls, where sacrificial victims’ heads were displayed, and arrive at the Platform of the Eagle and Jaguar Warriors, covered in intricate carvings. The Platform of Venus comes next, once used for offerings to the stars, shedding light on the Mayans’ complex belief system.
Continuing along The White Road—a massive white stone causeway—you’ll reach the Sacred Cenote, a site for offerings to the rain god. The imposing Temple of Warriors follows, a tiered structure harboring a dark secret within. Next, the Hall of a Thousand Columns shows where people once gathered to eat and socialize, and the Ossuary holds the grave of a High Priest.
Then it’s on to the Observatory, where you’ll learn about the Mayans’ cosmic views. Finally, you’ll arrive at the impressively named Nunnery and the Church, two of the most photographed buildings in Chichen Itza. Your tour concludes here, leaving you in awe of this remarkable ancient city.
