What to expect
Prepare to be whisked off into the scenic region of Connemara, famed for its wild and rugged landscapes, glistening lakes and breath-taking mountains. Your first stop of the day will be Aughnanure Castle, a particularly well-preserved example of an Irish tower house, where you can discover the remains of the castle's incredible rooms You'll then pass through the quaint village of Oughterard with a pit stop at its character thatched cottage pub for a short coffee break before weaving your way through the ever-changing landscapes of Connemara with stops at the Quiet Man Bridge and the legendary Connemara Giant.
The next stop on the castle tour will be Kylemore Abbey. Take your time here to explore this romantic abbey, its Victorian walled gardens and Gothic church. As you bid farewell to the Abbey, you'll hit the road to the capital of Connemara, the colourful market town of Clifden. En-route, if the weather allows, you'll join the famous Sky Road, renowned worldwide for its thrilling twists and turns, viewis of the ruins of Clifden castle, as the road swoops and soars above the Atlantic Ocean. The views and photo opportunities from this ‘Discovery Point’ are panoramic. After departing Clifden, you'll travel to Ballynahinch Castle. This castle is steeped in history so get ready to explore the castle and estate grounds including the newly restored walled garden before sitting down to some delicious castle tea and scones.
As you make your way back to Galway City, you'll pass through storybook villages, gorgeous green fields and much more.
