What to expect
Discover the Chinese culture with this guided tour! You will be picked up from your hotel and reach your first stop: the Temple of Heaven. You will visit this UNESCO-listed complex which dates back to the 15th century. There, the Ming and Qing emperors performed rituals and sacrifices to ensure abundant crops.
Then, you will drive towards Liulichang Street where you will admire Qing-style buildings and stroll through the art and antique book shops. You will visit Jingshan Park to enjoy the views on the Forbidden City and learn about the story of the last Ming emperor, who hanged himself in this park as enemy forces reached the city in 1644.
You will then explore Behai Park which hosts Fangshan, Beijing's oldest imperial restaurant. There, you will enjoy a rich lunch or dinner and try the dishes that were once favored by the Qing-era emperors.
After your meal, you will reach the Bell and Drum Towers and witness the drum-beating ceremony, which recalls how the drum was beaten to mark the time. Finally, you will reach a traditional family home and have the chance to learn a handicraft such as calligraphy, clay sculpture, mask or snuff bottle painting, Chinese yoyo or paper-cutting.
