What to expect
With long stretches of unspoilt beach and a rich cultural heritage – Sal has all the ingredients for a perfect day trip. This tour packs in the best sights, including Buracona lagoon and Pedra de Lume salt flats. To top it off, there's a traditional Cape Verdean lunch, and you'll get a glimpse of laidback, local life in Espargos and Palmeira. Rodrigo, one of our local guides, says, ‘Pedra de Lume is in the middle of a volcanic crater, and you reach it via a tunnel. You can sometimes pick up compressed salt crystals the size of a golf ball, while at other times the salt is so hard that you walk on the pans.'The fun kicks off with a visit to Espargos. You'll explore the island's colourful capital and admire its fascinating street art, before heading to an observatory point for elevated views over the town. Next, it's on to the Buracona lagoon, famed for an optical illusion known as the ‘blue eye' caused by the sunlight. The journey continues at the laidback fishing village of Palmeira. Relax in a café while your guide reveals stories about the village's past.You're in for a treat next, as there's a table waiting for us at a family-run restaurant which serves a special Cape Verdean lobster dish. There are other tasty options, too. After fuelling up on local cuisine, we'll head to the Dead Sea-like waters of Pedra de Lume. Lie back and float on one of the world's saltiest lagoons, before stopping by at Viveiros Botanical Garden to discover exotic vegetation and a petting zoo.

Seeing the town and driving through the outskirts, seeing the blue eye cave and the salt mines. Whilst I enjoyed the stop in the middle of the island it felt a bit drawn out. I would have liked to see and hear a bit more about music and culture.

Our guide Ramiro Lima was excellent his knowledge of the Island was excellent. He entertained us with his favourite music to fills the gaps whilst travelling. Took exceptional photos of us each holding up a rock and sent his best photos truly superb. His dress was smart and well presented comparing to the other TUI reps we saw on the tour who looked like the didn’t own an iron or washer. Ramiro made the tour cannot. Maybe he can spread his skills with the others our TUI reps.

We weren’t sure what to expect. Perhaps more detail in brochure would help. But overall from the moment we stepped onto the bus we had a thoroughly interesting & enjoyable day. Food was excellent. Salt lakes amazing. Ramiro our guide was knowledgeable & fun.

It was lovely to hear about the history of the island and have a local tour guide. Someone who has first hand knowledge of how things are run on the island and what the needs are on the island. Personally I wasn't interested in the botanical gardens because of the caged birds. I do not like seeing this. The free roaming birds were fine. This is just my personal opinion.

I forgot to keep my face, nose and eyes out of the salt lake, very painful experience. I seemed to be the only one who made thos mistake, so probably my fault entirely. I have a reflex action to submerge in water. Perhaps some idiots need to be warned twice :)

Guide was fantastic and informative. Driver was safe even during off road sections. Enjoyed the majority of the day and if you want to do all of this in one day it is the right tour for you. I would have preferred to do parts of it on different days rather than cram it into one day. Seeing different parts of the real Sal was worth it. Only safety concern was up at the Blue Eye were the viewing platform was a bit crowded with people taking pictures from the rocks beyond the walking platform.

The trip was very good however, as we booked online for a "lobster lunch" tour, we were a little disappointed to learn from the guide that "lobster lunch" was part of the brand name of the tour and not actually included unless we paid an extra 20 euros each. The guide and the trip was amazing though.

Guide was excellent, some stops quite hectic though. Tricky to contain a big group. Desert stop for mirage was not such a big deal. Neither was Blue Eye lagoon although a beautiful setting. Highlight was the Salt Lake. Good value for money tho and a great way to see the whole of the island.

We gave just returned from Holiday and the tour of Sal was one of the trips we had whilst out there. The trip was well worth the money you got to see so much of the island, the guide Ramira Lima was extremely knowledgeable and friendly he made the trip. Spending time in a volcano at the salt flats and having a weightless dip was invigorating, the blue eye was immense and the food elserved as part of the trip was delicious.

Great day out with a great guide. Nice to see different parts of the island and get a locals perspective. Coach small, but clean, comfortable and cool. Lunch was really tasty, and a good portion. Nice to see animals at the Botanical Gardens, although some of the cages seemed a little small. Lovely little African Grey, who after the guide explained, just wanted his head rubbing. I do think it’s a little pricey how ever. Little souvenir at the end a nice last touch.

The tour guide was amazing. So full of local knowledge. The stops were well timed and there were plenty of drink stops throughout the day. The Lobster lunch was lovely, although the Lobster was slightly overcooked and a bit dry. The starter though was out of this world. The trip was brilliant. The tour guide, Filipa (Portuguese spelling I think) was exceptional. The places we visited were well chosen and the pace just right. Only downside was the food. The lobster was terrible. It was destroyed by being overcooked. It was also not a whole lobster: no claws, essentially very leathery lobster tails. The other food available also looked like it had spent too long in the sun without applying factor 30

Very relaxed tour, the guide very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about Sal and Cabo Verdi. The Blue Eye we found interesting and did not have long to wait to view. We enjoyed being able to see a lot of places. There was a lot of variety too. The stops at each place were just right and the drink and rest stops were evenly spread out throughout day. I can’t think of any bad points, but if I was to organise the day myself, I would like to have visited the salt lake before lunch and not after.

The whole tour was great. The guide Toni was fantastic, warm, engaging and knowledgeable throughout. The only downside was that when I booked the tour in advance it was called adult tour of Sal but at the resort it was called something else and this was confusing. Additionally the lobster served was just OK but everything else was great.

Although interesting, it became a lecture on eco tourism. Sal does not actually have much to show in the way of interesting places to go. The stop at Palmiera was unnecessary. I felt we were taken to places of no particular merit just to fill in the day. Salt pan was fun.

We were under the impression from the heading of the experience that we’ve booked that the lobster lunch was included. We were only advise when on the trip that they didn’t have any choice for us next to lunch. We will then told that in order to have the lobster we had to pay a supplementary fee. This was a little bit misleading as the heading of the trip states lobster lunch. This was sorted and we paid the supplement for the lobster which was a whole point of booking the tour.

Our tour guide Eddie certainly made our trip, he sure did go the extra mile in everything he done and his knowledge was unbelievable not one question was left unanswered. The day ran very smooth and I would say the perfect amount of time spent at each destination of the experience. A lovely finishing touch with the turtle keep sake! Nothing to fault with the experience. Another huge shout out our tour guide Eddie, great guy!!

Worth paying the extra for the lobster lunch well worth the money. Interesting tour of island lots of info photo stops . Stop and swim at volcano different experience but you do have to walk through the tunnel and down to the pool not like Jane McDonald so if struggle to walk not ideal but do think help is available. As with other trips we have taken this holiday the vehicles used need to up spec with safety belts that work. It is questionable as to the insurance cover on these occasion. It is respected that many of the operators here are working in a third world situation in which case Tui and other operators might wish to invest in their partners in cape Verde to ensure maximum safety of the customer. It's a bit hairy and on one trip we witnessed a car travelling the opposite way to our coach roll over!!!

Well it was titled vip tour with lobster lunch there was no lobster lunch as Apperley you had to pay extra which was not told title Sat's lobster lunch not jus piece of dry fish so when booking thought it was lobster and was made to look silly when ordering food and then they show you got to pay extra 20 pound a head which I thought was expensive when you pay 260 a day for 2 people

Enjoyed location and quality of meal, plenty of drinks and toilet breaks. Botanical Gardens good, just more time to discover more of the gardens.

We thoroughly enjoyed most of the experience especially seeing the Blue Eye. A memory that I will always have. Not so much the caged animals, penned in donkeys at the Botanical Gardens. Our tour guide 'Eddie' was so professional/kind & understanding, a credit to the company thank you

Tony was an excellent guide to the island of Sal. The tour was interesting, fun and really worthwhile. Definitely recommend this.

Ramiro was fully engaging and able to offer his own stories to give some back ground to the island and the tour. The history, the sights and the overall experience was brilliant. Lunch was at a beach side restaurant with fantastic views and the staff were very attentive. A swim (float) in the salt lake was certainly different. Ensure you take comfortable shoes for the day as there is a lot of walking.

This is a great trip if you want to see all the main sites.of the island. Despite lots of stops it doesn't feel rushed amd being a small.group it is also.a.very friendly Excursion. Our guide Romeiro was very informative, but also lots of fun.

Ramiro was a star! The tour was so enjoyable and we got to see everything on the island in 1 day! It wasn't rushed at all! I will say, we were misinformed that the bus gets capped at 16 people but it was 20 of us. We were however lucky to have a good bunch of people so we didn't mind it. It was the best day for us and Ramiro took photos and videos of us which we loved! If you were to do anything when you come to Sal, definitely do this tour!
