What to expect
Enjoy a different type of sightseeing during a full-day 4x4 driving tour as a small group, taking in the sites of Salalah. Start your adventure with a visit to the century-old 'Taqah Castle', the former official residence of the 'Wali' also known as the Governor of the region and learn about local history.
Continue onto the ancient ruins of the once-famous city of Sumharam (Khor Rori), a UNESCO World Heritage site. Khor Rori was an important port on the coast of Dhofar, and one of the major trading cities with frankincense, believed to have been the hub and harbor for the shipping of frankincense.
Then head your journey into the mountain range of Jebel Samhan to a breathtaking plateau at a height of almost 1700 meters. This location is commonly known as the 'Grand Canyon' of Dhofar; that gives you a complete view of the east coast to one side and the vast 'Qara' mountain range to the other.
You'll then be driven into the 'ever green Wadi Darbat' for a relaxing stroll along the Wadi bed, surrounded by herds of camels, goats and cattle. In the Khareef season, that is the monsoon period, one could also witness an almost 100 meters natural waterfall, spreading its ‘tentacles’ into numerous lakes and lush green vegetation. Enjoy a packed picnic lunch before you proceed to Ayn Razat. This is a natural water spring at the bottom of Qara Mountain, where the Dhofari traditional canal system can be seen, before your return to the hotel.
