What to expect
Join this full-day tour to Furnas and discover the volcanic origins of the island of São Miguel accompanied by a local guide.
The experience will begin in the morning in Ponda Delgada, where you'll start a comfortable ride by van to Furnas, where you'll have the opportunity to observe the landscapes between the green of the mountains and the blue of the ocean. The tour will start visiting the Tea factory Gorreana before reaching Pico do Ferro, the viewpoint over Furnas. Then you'll continue in Caldeiras das Furnas where you'll see the famous fumaroles and gas carbonic mineral waters from different springs.
Passing by the Lagoa das Furnas, you'll stop in a local restaurant to taste the famous “Cozido”, one of the most traditional dishes of the Azores. After lunch, you'll visit the centenary Parque Terra Nostra botanical garden, famous for its collection of native plants from the Azores, as well as other species from all over the world. On the way back to Ponta Delgada, you'll pass by the southern coast and Vila Franca do Campo, where you'll be able to see the Princess Ring islet and know more about the first capital of the island and the strong earthquake of 1522.
