Enjoy a full-day trip to the countryside surrounding Amsterdam and get the most of your time in Holland exploring traditional villages and admiring magnificent landscapes!
Begin your tour visiting Zaanse Schans, where you will experience famous aspects of Dutch manufacturing tradition. Visit old but still working windmills used for the production of oil and timber. Enter the windmills and learn how products were fabricated 150-200 years ago! Continue your tour of the village visiting a wooden shoes workshop and a cheese factory.
Head to Monnickendam, a historic former fishing town dating back to 1350. The town was once a wealthy city and one of the most important ports in Holland, while today it is a protected heritage site. Alternatively, enjoy a visit to Edam, the picturesque cheese village. Take a stroll through the cozy historic center, walk across the old drawbridges and see the lock that saves the town from flooding!
Next, your journey will take you to Volendam. Stroll among the colorful houses, enjoy the lively boulevard and all the little restaurants, coffee bars and shops. After Volendam, enjoy a 25 minutes drive to Marken Island and then spend some time exploring its quiet streets. In the summer you may even take a 30-minute boat ride to this island, starting from Volendam.
