What to expect

There's still no better way to explore the Tunisian countryside than on the back of a camel. This caravan adventure allows you to become sultan of the sands and discover aspects of traditional rural life in Tunisia. We'll pick you up and bring you to Kantaoui, where you'll meet the camels before riding off on your adventure. You'll be on a dromedary – single-humped – camel from just before 10:00 till about midday.During the trail, there's a stop at a café, where you can enjoy a drink and observe locals bake tabouna – a small but filling flat bread that's a staple on every Tunisian table. As traditional Tunisian activities go, it doesn't really get more authentic than a camel caravan.

Lovely way to spend a morning. Mounting and dismounting the camels is an experience in itself! And nice to have the option of taking a horse drawn cart back after lunch. Lunch was delicious. Don’t expect too much in the way of information from guides but definitely worth the money.

Good experience and make to say we have done it. However Travel to the location was like taking your life into your own hands with a small ramshackle bus with no seat belts. The guides were friendly enough but straight away got white towels on your heads before asking for 10 dinar per person. Wear lots of sun screen as it is super hot on the about 30 minute journey to the place they sit you to have authentic bread and there is a bar. It would have been nice for an actual guide to be involved

We were picked up late in a SUV that was filthy inside and the doors handle was missing and we were told the seatbelts were broken. We then transferred to a very overcrowded bus where children had to sit on laps. For the bread making they didn’t understand we are Celiacs as so could try it.

Possibly not being thrown onto the camels on the way back. It was an exciting wonderful experience with a wonderful tui tour guide. I would recommend any one to try camel riding . So far in all my travels I haven't done anything more exciting or worthwhile

Myself and my 12 year old loved this trip. There were a number of baby camels also on the tour that were really friendly and cuddly, it was lovely. The stop at the farm for freshly baked tunisian bread and salad was really lovely too. The only thing I didn't like was one of the men was kicking one of the camels to get up when it was time to go as it was laying down and wouldn't get up. Didn't like that. They're their owned camels though so perhaps they know them best. Overall great trip.

The staff throughout were amazing. I wish we’d known to take a little cash for tips and the opportunity to buy photos. The cafe was really reasonably priced for drinks and the bread lady was so welcoming. The staff were brilliant and engaged with everyone. They were kind and Hamid was very witty and had wise words also. I didn’t like seeing the horses slip on the road but the staff were kind to them and explained why it was happening - one horse was leaving the pulling to the other horse.

Great

Giving more space between camels so they can lay down. When someone got on, if they were not flexible they will kick the camel's head accidentally, which obviously scared them and that is unsafe. The rest was nice, nice staff , nice food , very recommendable.

Camels where lovely. Trip from the hotel, taxi picked us up and then we stopped on an island and got asked to get into another car but we got there. Charged £2.50 for a head scalf or white rag put on our heads. Everyone on the trip wants a tip so take extra money, also u stop off and watch some ladies make bread who will give u a sandwich for tips, drinks u buy. U get thrown on to the camel by the guides, some people wasnt happy with this. All in all a good experience and I loved it.

Got picked up in an old pick up. Inside of it was filthy (left a stain on my trousers from just sitting on the seat). After a drive to the place we had some makeshift head covering placed on our heads and were charged 30TDN for the pleasure. 30 minutes on a camel. A few photos taken (then sold to us for 10TDN EACH!) we were then given a bottle of coke each and some bread. Once we had the drinks we were dropped off at the hotel. The guy doing the experience is lovely. Just greedy. Shame.

A great experience, the tour is quite basic it’s a short ride to a derelict area where you feed another camel by mouth with a piece of aloes. Great experience for children, you then are taken to another area to have homemade bread. Which was a lovely experience to see traditional cooking Negatives: you are charged for a piece of cloth and small tie which is put on your head without question then you are asked to pay. You make a donation for a small piece of bread and then donate to the guides

The organization been great, from pick up to drop off. The dislike part been jumping to camels instead them to seat and that to climb as well there been more people than camels so we needed to change so everyone can ride a camel.

Well worth the price. It was our first time on a camel rides and we absolutely loved it. The family looking after us is so nice and if you feel a bit anxious they will make you at ease. They speak English and French. Looking at the women making the traditional bread was nice too. Don’t hesitate, you won’t be disappointed.

Great

The tour is a good way to make you finally believe that you’re in Africa! The camels were lovely and the people who we met. Definitely went above expectations as we also went to one of their families house and saw how they make real Tunisian bread! The camels appeared to look very healthy and clean too. I think the only downside is the heat. So bring water with you and make yourself comfortable!

Fantastic morning riding Camels around this Olive Grove. Great experience and not to be missed! You get to see how traditional Tunisian/Berber bread is made and and get a brunch thrown in. Drinks cost extra, and there is a photographer taking pics so you don't forget a minute of it. (Again, extra for the pics but reasonably priced). Expect to spend around £30 extra for all the little bits (drinks, pics, traditional headwear). Would recommend

The camel ride was great fun, music, sun, cactuses a pit stop to pull out your camel toe lol and some clay oven Nan bread made by locals was delicious. The tour guides are fun and you get to put a piece of cactus without the pins lol in your mouth and feed the camel with a picture taken so do take some Dinas or your own camera phones on the trip. Do bare in mind these tour guides earn very little and they greatly appreciate a tip no matter the amount

Absolutely amazing. Plenty of time on and around the camels but also options of the pony and trap if you're not keen on riding. Not enough has been pointed out in the write ups of the traditional experience. Being at the farm house with lunch made in front of you and traditional harissa and bread was fabulous. Great people. Bit of a surprise being thrown up onto the camels but always done sensitively and gently.

Lovely tour, especially stopping in the village for homemade breads. Only downside to this tour as discussed with the rep in resort is that the path you walk along is filthy. Full of rubbish, old cookers, plastic bags and bottles. I know this isnt TUI's fault but if selling this tour, they need to contact the Tunisian govt department for tourism so this can be remedied

I was a little apprehensive about this camel trip but I actually really enjoyed it. The camels appeared to be looked after and the local guides running the caravan were friendly and helpful. Do expect to be 'manhandled' onto the camel - they lift you up onto the animal. If you don't want that - you can opt to go on a horse and cart rude instead. We rode through an olive plantation and had a couple of breaks to get off the camels incl a demo of local bread baking. Was a fun morning.

Camels seemed well looked after and was really fun. I’d recommend bringing lots of change with you because the bus driver, the tour guide and the camel workers will all ask you for a tip individually. Drinks half way through are only 3diner and there is a photograph who will print your photos for 5diner each

Being thrown on the back of a standing camel which had been tied very close together , heads of camels touching the rear of the one in front and then being walked down a gravel road with no pleasant views to speak of. This is not what I pictured when I booked a camel ride for me and my family not a sand dune in sight , just litter and dusty road. Being close to the gateway of the Sahara this could have been better.

Great trip, however…… being man handled a total of 6 times to get on and off the camels is a real downer. The camels are tied so close together they can’t kneel down, so you are launched up onto the camel and then when getting off assisted down. A very awkward and embarrassing trip for a mature curvy woman ??

I'm very happy with my holiday with TUI. Three hotel was great, it was good value for money. Tui app is fantastic, I had everything in one place. They were messaging me about every change of government restrictions, they organised the rest in the hotel so I didn't have to do it by myself. Overall in very happy and I will pick TUI in the future.
