What to expect

Few capitals are as diverse as Lisbon. From the tightly packed alleys of the old town to the elegant boulevards of Baixa Pombalina, it's a city bursting with charm and life – and classic yellow trams. Gonçalo, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Much of Lisbon was destroyed in the 1755 earthquake, and was then rebuilt under the Marquis of Pombal's guidance into the first city with innovative earthquake-resistant designs – hence today's name for the district: Baixa Pombalina.'Things kick off reasonably early, allowing you to reach Lisbon in good time. Get ready for spectacular views over the city as you cross the Golden Gate-like 25th April Bridge over the River Tagus to the seafront district of Belém. You'll get to see Belém Tower, the Monument of Discoveries and much more. Gonçalo says, 'Belém Tower was built in the early 16th century and is an iconic symbol of Portugal's Age of Discoveries. It once stood on a small island near the riverbank, but as the river's course changed, it now sits near the shore. Over the years, it's served as a defence point, a lighthouse, a customs house, and even a prison.'Next, sightsee by bus passing by the Basilica Estrela among other sights. Your guide will then point out the best areas of the city to check out during your free time – whether you prefer to shop, dine or simply stroll streets lined with impressive buildings from Portugal's imperial days. You'll return to the Algarve via the Vasco da Gama Bridge – the longest in Europe.

Excellent

It’s a pity about the pick up mix up which I tried to change but informed I couldn’t, which then involved a taxi to get us to the pick up point and then 15 mins later it passed the Hotel we were staying at !! So this was frustrating, Apart from this the day was splendid and the Guide provided excellent commentary and recommendations along the way.

Average

Could have been organized better. Went to the monastery and by the time Anna the tour guide explained in 3 different languages the Queue tripled in size. Should have queued straight away and she could have explained the History while the queue was moving.

Great

The trip and guide were excellent, but the whole experience with the TUI app was abysmal,I only wanted answering a few simple questions, about pick up points, took an age to sort out, you need to speak directly to the customer, not have some bot telling you lies, when I eventually got through to someone they told me to ignore everything the bot had said, luckily we had an enjoyable trip

The pick up was on time and Lisbon was very nice. Didn't know we would have to change coaches and when we got on the 2nd coach it was nearly full so not much choice of seats. Also it was a very long day from 6am to 8pm. The 30min stop at the services was not long enough to get a drink bearing in mind the coach was full, and on the way back we had just 15min to go to the toilet.

Enjoyed it all, some things were very fast to see, but understand there is a schedule to keep to. Discounts if you've booked more than one trip?

Absolutely amazing trip! It’s a long day but definitely worth it. Our tour guide, Franz, was the best tour guide we have ever had and he made the trip fun and made sure that we all had his number in case we got lost, gave us maps of Lisbon and recommendations where to visit. The driver was excellent and was very skilled in some difficult areas. This was one of the best trips we have been on

Great

The guide was excellent and had so much information we felt constantly entertained and educated. The journey to Lisbon flew and he made the day. The driver was also very good and looked after us

Great

The guide was very knowledgeable told us a lot about the area/history unfortunately we didn’t beat the cruise ships to the monestry so was lost valuable time in the city of Lisbon. I thought it was very good value especially with the commute but would have preferred longer in Lisbon to explore

Excellent

Excellent value. Smooth pick up and coach journey with coffee/wc stop and talk about the area from the knowledgeable multi lingual Anna. 1st stop Belem Riverside area. Guided tour of monastery, custard tart from the famous bakery , then major sites via bus and finally dropped in centre of town for independent sightseeing/shopping/lunch. We took Anna's tip and rode the traditional tram no 12 that runs a circular route around the historic centre. Then picked up and home in time for dinner.

Great

13 hour trip, not 8 as advertised. Misleading as entry into Jeronimos Monastery is actually free. Tour guide really informative and kind. Enjoyed all of the stops and locations. Centre of Lisbon is gorgeous but would have liked more free time. Would recommend, but prepare for a very long day.
