What to expect

You'll leave no stone unturned as you explore Cyprus's hidden corners. This exclusive excursion takes in remote highland villages, dramatic landscapes and a revered monastery. It also includes a traditional Cypriot lunch. Stavroula, one of our local guides on this tour, says, ‘Fikardou village is an excellent example of rural mountain life, where the 19th-century architecture is in complete harmony with the environment.' A real taste of what's to come.Heading inland, you'll arrive mid-morning at rustic and laidback Fikardou. All cobblestones and historic houses, time seems to have frozen here. And with free time to explore, you'll find that ancient traditions still hold their way. It's so well-preserved that it's on UNESCO's tentative list of world heritage sites. Next, you'll head to the 12th-century Macharias Monastery, which is located on a remote hillside. Its lavishly decorated interior houses a sacred icon of the Virgin Mary. Then, it's time for a traditional Cypriot lunch, prepared with locally sourced ingredients and served at a family-run restaurant on the way to Lefkara. The tour ends on a high in charming Lefkara, a village famed for its handmade lace and embroidery. ‘Women, young and old, can be seen seated outside their homes and shops making lace,' says Stavroula. ‘For hundreds of years, the men from the village have travelled all over Europe to sell it, even Leonardo da Vinci bought some.'

Great

Had a great day out, Stav was an excellent guide, she was very knowledgeable, friendly and had a great sense of humour. It was interesting to hear about the local area, history etc. and to see the island a bit more. Lunch at Maria's was amazing! If anything, the only thing that would have made it better was better air con in the mini bus and more leg room for us tall folk.

Our guide Stavroula made the tour very interesting and informative. Always -- even on the road between locations -- we learned something new about the history or local traditions of Cyprus. Villages themselves are really authentic and present the real Cyprus. Snack and lunch included were delicious and water was available on the bus for 0.5 EUR. Note that winding mountain roads might not be for everyone: our kids got seasick during the first hour ¯\_(?)_/¯

An absolutely fantastic day! A group of 19 plus guide in an aircon’d midi coach with tinted viewing windows to make the most of the views. The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable of all areas we passed through. Learnt a lot about social history, the importance of Orthodox Church plus local food/culture. The abandoned wine village was fascinating, beautiful and brought to life by our guide, plus a traditional Cypriot breakfast in the old tavern; 1 of the highlights of the day. Memorable.

Day was very well organised with 5 stops to villages, monastery & donkey sanctuary. Lovely morning snack provided in village & excellent lunch at donkey sanctuary with food demonstrations & free drink samples. Guide was extremely knowledgeable & enthusiastic. Robes provided ar monastery if knees & shoulders were bare! Need to wear flat comfy shoes for walking as ground very uneven in old villages. Donkey sanctuary was a lovely place to end the day. Transfers good in mini bus.

This is a very religious trip with lots of churches and monasteries visited throughout. LU LU was a excellent guild giving us lots of information about Cyprus and the tour. There was plenty of time to look around at each stop you got around 30-40 mins which was plenty of time to look around. The donkey sanctuary was a great visit and the food was great the only down side was if didn't drink wine then the only option was water no other soft drink was included in the price.

Stavroula was an amazing, informative guide that made the whole experience enjoyable. Her knowledge far exceeded our expectations. The old village in the mountains is a must see. Least favourite place visited was the monastery but still worth seeing. Best trip of the holiday with a perfect guide.

Our guide was called Stavroula. From the moment she got on the coach she started telling us interesting facts about Cyprus. She is incredibly knowledgeable. I felt my holiday in Cyprus was enriched by going on this tour. You simply learn so much and have a greater understanding of the people, the economy, the environment and so much more. The villages were so picturesque and the food is wonderful. Take a camera, you’ll be glad you did! Incredible tour 10/10 Thank you!

Great

This was a fantastic experience so much fitted into the day with some bonus stops that weren't mentioned on the online booking, the jewellery shops and donkeys really made my day. The tour guide was fabulous, I felt like I learnt so much about Cyprus. A few marks were taken off as it took us over 2 hours on the bus to actually reach the first stop, we were the first on at 7.30am and there was an issue with the collection of some other passengers leading to a delay. Great day out afterwards!

Great

The flight and hotel were very good and they even had sandwiches at reception for our very late arrival at 3am. The hotel had a building site next door which started at 7 am even on Sunday , not so good . It was hard having very late flights but we did know the timings .

Great

It was great seeing the traditional villages and finding out about Cypriot life. Enjoyed the journey through the mountains and seeing the scenery. The only thing that would improve the trip would be stopping during the drives through the mountains for some photo stops as the views were so great!

Loved the village in the mountains and the tour guide was outstanding. Could have done with a little more time at the Russian church complex. Donkey sanctuary was good for kids but we were there too long. Overall excellent

Meget vidende guide. Talte et let forståeligt engelsk. De besøgte steder var velvalgte og blev omtalt udførligt. Alt i alt en god oplevelse som kan anbefales til alle der ønsker at vide mere om levevilkår i bjergene før og nu.

A good trip to a few of the Troodos villages. Nice stop for breakfast, and a lovely old village. Silver and lace village interesting but a little too long a stop. The lunch stop was at the Donkey Farm. Food was dry/overcooked, but the demos were good. Guide was excellent, brought Cyprus to life.
