What to expect

The lush, cool forest that carpets the Troodos Mountains is an ideal escape near Paphos. A perfect contrast to the beach, you'll journey along a scenic route into the hills, where your destination is the village of Platres. Here, you'll set off on a 3km hike along the stream to the Caledonia Falls, followed by a traditional lunch at Psilo Dendro restaurant. Andri, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘You'll enjoy the journey as much as the destination on this hike, which follows and criss-crosses a stream over a series of little bridges all the way to the waterfall.'We'll get the tour started on a refreshing note with a stop at Kolossi Fruit Garden. Here you'll have the chance to try some fresh lemonade and buy fruit before continuing further into the mountains to the pretty hilltop village of Platres. This is the starting point for the nature trail, which traces the bubbling Kryos Potamos stream through the trees. You'll be glad of sturdy footwear as you head along the scenic trail, which is quite uneven in places with some rocks, roots and rivulets to keep it interesting. It's a forest walk in dappled shade, leading through a variety of gnarly trees including pines and strawberry trees. Once you reach the Caledonia Falls, you'll be able to take a break - and have a paddle if you wish - at the shaded freshwater pool, then continue to the famous Psilo Dendro restaurant with its very own trout farm. Relax over lunch – needless to say, trout is a speciality – and end the day on a high.

The tour was too strenuous not enough information given on how hard the walking would be. Tour guide was hard to understand due to very strong accent.

We were not warned about how wet we would get and we got soaked in torrential rain. Our guide was aware of the weather as she got her plastic mac out to wear whereas all the group were drenched from head to toe. In future the offer should encourage people to take wet weather gear

Great

This is really good trip, would have been a lot better if it hadn't rained for most of the hike, not Tui's fault, however there should be more information on this trip to take dry clothes, a towel and water proofs just in case it rains as you are up in the mountains. If you love nature and walking you will love this trip, the guide was excellent, very good and knew her trees etc, she was very helful when crossing the streams where there no bridges.

Andrea was a brillant tourguide, was really great listening to all the facts from what we passed from the coach, her tone is very exciting so makes it fun listening to. Very kind and friendly, she warns people of anything and gives safer ways to climb up to the waterfall. ¹The whole trip was fun, i wish there was more info about how to get to the waterfall as i have a brother who doesnt balance very well, we was given an easier route but wasnt warned how high it was, this should be told.

Group was too big 42 people is a lot or people Not enough time at the waterfalls Walking time advertised completely wrong as the walk to the waterfalls took over 90 mins and then another 25 minutes back to the coach -it was advertised as 45 minutes We are experienced walkers so the walk was easy and we had walking boots but others struggled both with them terrain and footwear Lunch was amazing, food very tasty

Beautiful walk in lovely surroundings. Guide was very patronising to the younger members of the group and talked to them as if they were naughty children.

Great

The tour guide and drive we had was amazing! We was a smaller group of people (10 people), which was prefect. The tour guide, made sure everyone was safe and waited for those who were a little slower. The only problem we had was the information from TUI. A paddle to me, means enough water to at least semi swim in. The TUI Rep at the hotel even said we could swim. However, once we got there, the water came up to pur ankles. I really enjoyed the hike and views but was disappointed we couldn't swim

You did not need the second stop on the coach route. Felt that the travel to the trail was eeked out. It did not need to be an 8hr trip. Some spent longer on the coach that on the trail. Which is wrong. The guild was very good and the trail very good

Our TUI rep was excellent and very knowledgable making the whole day very enjoyable. She stressed to everybody the complexity of the ground we would be walking on ( reinforcing what was briefed before booking the trip.) and was honest. Lovely but difficult walk lovely to see the waterfall, trout in the water and the stops each way. Clear safety instructions were given unfortunately some guests on the walk thought they knew better and disregarded her, but she was calm firm & polite. Thank you

Overall the experience was very enjoyable. Too long spent at the fruit farm and at Aphrodite's birthday place for me. I felt that the group was too big for the trek as we were of different abilities and we became spread out. Someone at the back slipped over and luckily didn't hurt herself but the guide was some distance ahead. The guide was very knowledgeable and did emphasis that we needed to look after each other.

The tour itself was great but the guide was way too fast for some of the attendees. Being young, I was fine and enjoyed the purposeful speed of the walk, but the older attendees were left far behind out of sight, and the tour guide didn't even check back to see if they could see them. For all we know they could have fallen and broken their necks. It was up to myself and one other person near the tour guide to remind them that people had fallen behind. I would not recommend if you are over 60.

The walk itself was lovely as was the restaurant. However, my mum experienced an acute medical turn on the day and was suffering from severe lightheadedness, dizziness, sickness and muscle weakness. This is not the norm for her and i was extremely worried but the guide was more interested in getting everyone down in time than looking after my mum. We weren't informed of any medical telephone numbers and were made to feel like naughty children who couldn't keep up. I was very angry on the day.

Loved the waterfall trip although it was a bit rushed actually doing the walk. Meal was nice. Needed a bit extra included on way home ie winery stop or village visit as trip ended earlier than was stated. Think we got back at 3.30pm. Was listed as 8 hour trip. Tour Guide was very good

Fab trip, wonderful walk through forest, rocky under foot but didnt feel rushed. Time to see all types of trees and the lovely waterfall. Lunch was tasty and plentiful. Coach was comfy with air con. Driver good and guide was helpful and knowledgable. We stopped mid morning and mid afternoon too for loo breaks and short visit to aphrodites rock for photos. Would recommend.

Thoroughly enjoyed this trip. Excellent value for money. The hike from the top of the trail down to the waterfall and then down to the base and restaurant area was not for people who are not used to walking distances over irregular surfaces/rocks. Our group was great. The lunch that was included was good with a great choice and good portion sizes and included water and wine. I thoroughly recommend this for an activity trip amongst beautiful scenery.

Guide was very informative, walk was good, water even though very dry, sheltered from the intense heat by the trees, they say wear shoes for walking - do coz it is uneaven and you may need to walk through some water. Had a bonus visit to aphrodites rock on the beach - need cash if using gift shop. Lunch was delicious Well worth the money Definitely recommend the trip

The hike was very nice, quite hard in place, but beautiful scenery. The guide, although she was a nice lady and said there would be plenty of photo opportunities, set off at a cracking pace and didn't ease up. There was no time to stop or admire the scenery or you would be left behind. At the end she made a comment that we beat her last tour's time. I understand that she has done the walk a lot of times but the rest of us hadn't and it would have been nice to enjoy it!!!!

It was spoiled by by an 80 year old man in sandals who slipped crossing the first small stream. This is not a manufactured tourist attraction, it is a mountain trail. You need good shoes and full mobility to do it.

Our guide “Andri” was absolutely fantastic, friendly and knowledgeable. We had a great day, and we’re surprised by our trip to the plantation- where we were served the most beautiful lemonade. The hike itself was lovely and refreshing and Andri kept a close eye, and gave good, clear instructions the group throughout. The lunch provided was tasty, and just what was needed after the hike.

Andri was lovely and very knowledgeable. Gave some in-depth history of Cyprus along the way to the private plantation where we tried the citrus fruits in season. We then had numerous planned toilet stops along the way to the trailhead. Once there the trail was mostly shaded and just so peaceful. We started at a higher point of the trail so it was mostly downhill and when we got to the end we had a lovely lunch at a private trout farm. On the way back to Paphos we stopped at Aphrodite's Rock.

The tour started with a lovely welcome from thr guide. We then headed off to the first stop. Throughout the day the guide always found new interesting pieces of information about the surrounding area. The hike was great but there was a definite need for water and some members of the group didn't listen to the guide. It ended with a stop at aphrodite's Rock. Overall great trip and would definitely recommend.

The guide was very knowledgeable and gave lots of information throughout the day. The walk was beautiful and plenty of time to take in the views and stop to take photos. We made a stop to Aphrodite’s rock on the way back which I wasn’t expecting but we only had 30 mins and were tempted to have a quick dip to cool off if we had had a little bit more time. (45mins would have been better)

Great guide, wonderful scenery, good food. The only downside were the people at the front wanting to rush ahead and not bothering about the not so quick people at the back. Although the guide had told us at the start to keep together as a team. No consideration for others.

The tour guide was very knowledgeable and attentive. The whole day was enjoyable although the trek was very physically challenging. Although you are following a “trail” you are often climbing over rocks and crossing the river using rocks. The water falls are lovely but the trail was busy after the falls with people coming the other way and only enough room for single file in some places. There is a real need for good walking shoes as trainers for some in the party seemed to be slippery.

Great

We enjoyed this trip as a family with an 8 and 10 year old. The tour guide was very knowledgeable about the areas we passed and open to questions all the time. The stop at the vineyard was nice, the lemonade was delicious and saw lots of lizards, which the kids loved. On the actual trail the terrain was pretty hard going, if you have bad knees or balance issues I would give it a miss, but for us it was a real adventure. Such a beautiful walk, really enjoyed lunch at the trout farm and the stop to Aphrodite’s rock was a lovely surprise as it wasn’t listed on tour. One my my favourite days of a two week holiday.
