Experience the heart of Crete – its rich mythology, diverse flora and fauna, and fascinating local life. Katerina, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Crete's crumpled mountain peaks echo with stories from Greek mythology - Zeus, the Greek god responsible for thunder and lightning, was born in a cave in Crete's mountains, and it was here on Crete that Theseus slayed the minotaur.'We start with a drive along scenic paths and olive groves, passing ancient relics as we climb through Crete's hills. We'll then call in at a small village where you can sample raki and olive oil with the locals. Cretan olive oil is prized for its purity and flavour, as well as its high polyphenol content and low acidity, which make it very healthy.From here, the real off-road adventure begins as we rumble into the mountains and follow an ancient trail used by shepherds to reach flocks high in the summer pastures. In simple shepherd's huts, fresh goat milk is used to make a tasty homemade cheese. Next, we'll visit a family-run taverna for a typical local lunch – a vegetarian option is also available – with unlimited wine. It was money well spent and a great full day from start to finish. My 10 year old and I learnt so much thanks to guide, Jason as he took us around the mountains offering tons of facts and information about the island and ways of life. We can't wait to indulge the cheese bought from the shepherd, Yanis and honey from the farm. Super lunch too. Most definitely a highlight on our trip to Crete.

We had a great time on the 4x4 mountain tour! Our guide, Joseph, was fantastic - really friendly and extremely knowledgeable, stopping along the route to point out native plants and fruits for us to smell or taste. The planned stops were fab, we loved learning more about local life in the mountains! And the trip down to Zeus Cave was also great, despite the hot climb to get to the entrance! Definitely worth booking this trip for a day of spectacular views and culture.

Had a brilliant . only planning to do 1 excursion I recommend doing this one. Geoff is amazing, not only feel safe throughout he is so informative, engages everyone & I've already recommend friends & family including other solo travellers who are planning to visit not to miss out. The walk to Zeus cave is a little steep but there's shade & can do at your own pace, it is definitely worthwhile. Every stop along the way was so good, the village of Krasi, Lassithi Plateau, the Goats, views ??

The entire experience was absolutely fantastic! Our Tour guide was incredibly funny and made sure to take excellent care of us. The views we saw were absolutely breathtaking, and it was truly amazing to learn about the local cuisine and culture. But the highlight of it all was definitely when we got to feed the goats. Darros, our guide was entertaining and knowledgeable. We got a Mercedes instead of a Land Rover and it was roomier and more comfortable. I couldn't manage the trek up to the cave but still think the trip was great value for money. My mobility is not great but it didn't stop me enjoying this excursion.

This is really one of the best options if you want to discover more about Crete. We had Geoff as our driver, he is so knowledgable about the area and the environment of Crete. We really enjoyed the day. Advice though, pack light, if your 4x4 is full, they’re not a lot of space for bags! We were lucky as we had 7 people not the full capacity of 8 Finally, the walk to Zeus cave is steep, but well well worth it. Take some water if you are going to do it!

This trip is absolutely amazing. Our guide, Chris, was so knowledgeable & helpful. The scenery was spectacular. Regular stops to take in pretty mountain villages, feed mountain goats, understand more about the history of the area & watch vultures circling on the thermals were just amazing. The trip includes a stop at Zeus’s cave (optional cost to go inside) well worth it as it was stunning, lunch is included at a beautiful taverna, the food was delicious. We would highly recommend.

Pros - stunning scenery. Great to see parts of Crete you wouldn’t otherwise visit. Knowledgeable guide. A great lunch with plenty to eat and drink. Cons - 20 minutes late picking up. Not very comfortable sitting sideways in the back of the vehicle bumping legs with other guests.

The trip was interesting & varied, with a lot packed in to the day.The guide was very entertaining and a fantastic driver on the narrow, winding mountain roads. The difficult walk up to Zeus’s Cave was optional and there was still plenty to do and look forward to without that. The only negative aspect was the car arrived nearly 15 mins late to our hotel and we were beginning to worry that we’d been forgotten or that I hadn’t made the booking correctly.

Excellent tour with a small group expertly led by our tour guide and driver George. Visited many small villages in the mountains, there was olive oil and raki tasting, plenty of stops for pictures across the plateau and mountains. We got the chance to see vultures , many sheep and goats and the cats of Crete! Included a stop at the Zeus caves which was quite strenuous but worth it and then ate lunch at a local taverna which was fantastic. Very enjoyable experience.

A great jeep safari into the Cretan mountains exploring traditional villages, and tasting local olive oil, honey, raki and cheese. The views were breathtaking, and Zeus' birthplace cave was magical. Lunch at the Greek taverna was very delicious. Geoff, our guide, was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot about Cretan life and traditions. He also had a great sense of humour and kept us well entertained throughout the day. A highly recommended, enjoyable trip.

It was a good experience and the tour guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. There was lots to see and the perfect weather. The journey via boat went quite quickly, and was comfortable. The only thing I didn’t like so much was the disorganisation at the port but apart from that it was a good day.

we really enjoyed the day but unfortunately were the only group on the day to not have the typical 4x4 vehicle. Instead we were in a 4x4 Mercedes vito people carrier. hence the experience wasn't quite what we wanted/expected. The day however was still fun, very informative and interesting. Lunch seemed quite simple but was tasty and plenty of wine included.

We both really enjoyed this 4X4 mountain trip. Our guide Geoff was exceptional, both with his local knowledge and in keeping everyone entertained throughout the day. We visited authentic Crete villages, explored rugged off beat tracks across the mountains, had a lovely lunch in a Taverna and saw some amazing vistas. "Spartacus" our trusted Land Rover was exceptionally clean and made light work of climbing steep tracks. Overall a must-do trip that makes a great day out.

An excellent day out - Darrel was a fantastic guide with great knowledge of the area and its history. The lunch was amazing (and suitable for gluten free). We enjoyed visiting Zeus' birthplace, and exploring traditional Cretian towns. Plenty of opportunities to try local cheese, honey, raki, and olive oil (all very tasty). The English guide was very friendly polite and seemed to enjoy his job. He was very knowledgeable and kept us entertained through out the trip. We felt in safe hands on the narrow tracks that wound up and down the mountains. Lunch at the village taverna was a pleasant experience and the food was nice however we felt there wasn't quite enough chicken to go round but the other dishes were plentiful. Chris our guide was a really nice fellow.

The overall experience really gives you a view of Crete you don't get within the usual tourist locations. Geoff our guide was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and kept us all entertained throughout the day. Geoff and his view of the island and its people was the best part of this excursion and we highly recommend it anyone visiting the island. I wouldn't recommend this excursion to anyone who struggles mobility as there is some walking to do, and the tracks can be a tad rough.

We appreciated the opportunity to see aspects of Crete we would not normally see. Our guide showed us some beautiful areas of the island that were definitely off the beaten track. We saw goats and sheep, beautiful views and a mountainside church. The eagles were especially impressive. The lunch was excellent.

Darryl, the guide made this experience a brilliant one. He was very informative and easy going. Taking us off the beaten track in the land rover visiting little villages and taking in some breathtaking views as we climbed further up the mountain. We had lunch at a taverna which was lovely. Our driver/guide, Darrell, was excellent. Knowledgable and funny in equal measure. After we all introduced ourselves, Darrell remembered all our names - and used them. He gave us info on the flora, fauns and geology of the island. Excellent lunch with local produce at a typical taverna. Recommended
