What to expect
Kefalonia was just one of seven beautiful Ionian islands until Captain Corelli came along with his mandolin and sprinkled some Hollywood glamour on its shores. But there's more than silver screen glitz for you to uncover on this fun tour. Jane, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘You'll hear all about the fascinating history, Greek mythology and love stories of Kefalonia.'Your adventure kicks off underground at Lake Melissani. The ancient Greeks called it the Cave of the Nymphs. It's quite the experience to glide over its glistening waters, piloted by a friendly local. We'll then pass Sami, the fishing village in which Nicolas Cage's Italian soldier fell in love with local doctor's daughter Penelope Cruz. Next up is a pit stop at Agia Efimia, where you'll have some time to poke around the shops before boarding a boat for a cruise.We'll sail along the northeastern coast of Kefalonia – all pine-clad hills punctured by hidden coves of pebbly beaches. There'll be a pit stop on Amoudi beach for a chance to swim, before docking in Fiskardo, where you'll drop into a family-run taverna for a lunch made from locally sourced ingredients. This tiny port of pastel-coloured houses and flower-filled stone streets is ‘proud of its Venetian architecture and Roman heritage', says Jane. In the afternoon, you'll visit the untouched perfection of the village of Assos and stop by Myrtos beach – one of the stars of Captain Corelli – for a photo. 'Many rate it as one of the world's most beautiful beaches', adds Jane.

A great day out taking in some lovely scenes and sights. Lunch was great (Kefalonia meat pie) and everything was organised very well; the tour ran like clockwork. The icing on the cake was our wonderful guide who made the day so enjoyable; she was very well informed and was able to give us a detailed history of the island and the places we visited. She also had a great sense of humour which always helps lift the day.

Guide was excellent, very much enjoyed the caves and boat trip. Lunch I thought was excellent value within the cost of the trip. After lunch was a little weaker, with a trip to Assos very pretty but in the heat and the long winding roads to it and only 40 minutes there. Overall a very good day out

Caves and lake were beautiful. Glad we went early and the queue when we finished was huge! Boat trip was lovely. Shame it was too rough for the swim stop but good to see safety of customers was put first. Nice lunch and stop. Very relaxed feel all day.

I enjoyed the whole experience except the lunch option was chicken, beef or vegetarian. I ordered the beef and only realised it was pork when I started eating it. I confirmed this with the waitress and couldn’t believe it. While I do eat pork I didn’t or it. I was distraught for those who had it when their religion don’t allow it.

Whilst we had a lovely day, we feel this tour is extremely overpriced and the options available at the coffee stop were very limited and not of the best quality, it would be much nicer to be able to have the option of a latte, cappuccino or even an iced coffee and the lunch portions where very small, main course portions where more like starter size portions. we also felt due to how busy Fiskardo gets that the time there should have been reduced and more time given to explore in Assos

its a great way to see the island. a mix of coach and cruise breaks the day up. I would have liked to have seen the caves as well but not part of this tour and it was only down the road from the lake. it is a long day especially if you are staying in Lourdas, don't let that put you off though. its well worth the money and time.

The boat across the lake in the cave was underwhelming but I have to say the rest of the trip made up for it and the value for money was brilliant. Maria the guide was absolutely amazing not only her knowledge but her care for the group was outstanding. She made sure everyone was ok at every point. At the last stop she had personally purchased extra water which she gave to members of the group she thought were struggling with the heat. The driver was brilliant as well.

My feedback Pros: Lovely tour guide (Wendy) Good views Nice stops in major villages e.g. fiskardo and assos Cons: Made to sit in shade with very cold wind when eating coffee/cake & lunch Boat trip did not feel premier - lots of people crammed on and no space with very uncomfortable seats. No flexibility for movement. No swim stop due to wind - no alternative offered .g. beach time. Food in fiskardo was llmited and not very nice.Would have preferred to choose which café I went for food.

We enjoyed the complete day. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and presented excellently. We very much enjoyed the boat trip and swim, before heading off to Fiskardo for lunch. What a beautiful place to sit and eat, at the quaint and picturesque harbour. Lake Melissani cave boat trip was short but excellent. Overall a most enjoyable excursion. Good value for money.

Very enjoyable day. Coach well air conditioned and the amazing Steffi entertained us with stories of historical events on the Island. It was so interesting and sometimes moving. The views and stops were amazing and beautiful, lunch was very nice too. Cut my finger flushing the loo at our coffee stop and Steffi gave first aid as I couldn’t stop it bleeding. Nothing was too much trouble. The island is so beautiful, best day of the holiday. Take spare bikini to change into after swim stop.

Our guide Diamond was excellent. Knowledgeable. Spoke clearly. Friendly. The coach and driver was very comfortable and safe. The tour allowed a full sense of the island’s topography etc. Morning coffee was ok. Not great quality. Dry cake. Lunch was ok but wouldn’t win any gourmet prizes. Indicating where the wc was at the lunch stop would have been helpful as it’s not obvious.

This was a great "whistle stop" tour to do early in your holiday, so you can get a feel for the island, its a long day but recommended. The guide was brilliant, the food was good, and all the stops were lovely. It's also handy to arrive at the cave very early before the main tourists, so its nice and quiet and we had the cave to ourself.

Booked to go with my girlfriend as we were limited with transport during our stay and wanted to explore the island. Wonderful choice of places to go and lots of activities to do, we really got to enjoy the different towns and attractions on the island. Met some lovely people and had a fantastic time. This tour is a good way to see all the main attractions, but it was very rushed. It's probably better value to hire a car for the day and head to each place, as we only had about 20 mins in Assos and the visit to Myrtos beach is just a 5 min photo-op from above! The lunch was nice though, and we enjoyed the boat trip - although the order of the trip was different to what our rep had advertised. The cave was disappointing, it's a really short trip and would have preferred more time elsewhere

Her deep affection for the island of Kefalonia and its people shone through, underpinned by her vast knowledge and impressive communication skills. We were also fortunate to have Spiros as our driver, threading our coach through impossible gaps and around hairpin turns with consummate skill. They make a great team.

The only change is that we would have liked a slightly longer time in the cave. Meni our guide was fantastic- very knowledgeable- lots of history and info Lunch was delicious and the coffee and cake stop was lovely too Just the right amount of time at each stop and was great that the day was changed around to ensure we were not on the walk at the hottest part of the day and were instead enjoying the boat ride and sea swim Would highly recommend this experience

Most of the day was great however the included lunch was poor. Not only was service very slow but main meal was not very good and for a trip that cost £100 was worst food we had all holiday. Because it was so slow our time in Fiskardo to look around was short. Luckily we didn't take long as the boat cruise is 3 tui tours all together and had we been any longer we would not have gotten seats outside on boat. One poor couple were sat on plastic shelf behind stairs. Very poor for the cost.

The trip was excellent in all respects. The only caveat we had was the confirmation received at the time of booking via the app. Pick up time stated 8.15am. from "Princess" which meant nothing to us. After several queries eventually received notice that pick up was from Kekatos at 7.10am. This confusion caused us some anxiety!

On the whole, the trip was enjoyable. Tour guide was very good and very knowledgable. I felt Messani Lake was overpriced, especially when we were also expected to tip the boatman. Taverna lunch was pleasant, but it was disappointing that the boat trip element of this excursion was cancelled. Whilst accepting that this was due to poor weather conditions, and therefore unavoidable, it nonetheless took the edge off of this particular excursion.

I truly enjoyed the TUI guide’s in-depth knowledge of the excursion and the areas we covered. She had patience and understanding of people need’s especially when there were people of all nationalities and different backgrounds. A great day and good way to see all the interesting parts of the island. Loved the boat trip and swim stop and lunch in fiscardo was delicious. Was a bit worried having read previous comments about driving on a coach through the mountains, but the coach driver was brilliant. Very safe and careful and as a nervous passenger myself, I felt very safe and enjoyed the scenery. A little bit more shopping time in fiscardo would have been welcomed.

Katherine the guide was excellent very informative. The whole trip was excellent with the only exception being the lunch which was not very well cooked.

The trip was well organised and planned out, even with a last minute rearrangement of the day due to the arrival of a couple of cruise ships. Memi was a great guide, full of interesting stories and information which kept us entertained throughout the day. Loved the boat trip and swim stop. There was nothing about the day that I didn't enjoy.

Overall experience very good. Our guide, Katarina, was knowledgeable and very enthusiastic. Only niggle. We'd already booked a tour online but decided to upgrade to Premier at the rep meeting. Price with rep was 16 euros per person more expensive than online price, so I booked online. Easy to cancel previously booked tour.

The trip was amazing and our guide Katrina was fantastic. However the meal we had when we were taken to Fiskardo was appalling. It was described as three courses but apart from the salad was horrible. The tour was fantastic and we really enjoyed this. The driver was very skilled and we felt confident that he would keep us safe, particularly with hair pin bends to contend with. Overall a wonderful trip but disappointed with the meal which does need addressing.

Trip was faultless we loved the spots visited but the tour guide Diamond was truly exceptional. Her wealth of knowledge on the island mixed in with personal stories was truly brilliant.

Excellent knowledgeable and safe drivers + charming, friendly rep's. The transport vehicles were comfortable and air-conditioned. The boat cruise was a pleasure with very good food, drink and facilities. It's a tiring day but really worth it.

Our guide was Diamond. Throughout the day her love and passion for the island shone through and rubbed off on to everyone on the coach. We were fortunate enough to have Diamond for the three experiences we booked. TUI is very fortunate to have Diamond on the team.

The real disappointment of the day was the lunch. Best way to describe the food was ‘awful’. Our chicken was cold, dry as were the accompanying potatoes.

Enjoyed the trip but the bus route on the high cliff edge roads with tight bends was too much for a big coach, I thought it was dangerous and incredably frightening. If I had known the route I would not have gone on the trip.

The food offered to us in Fiskardo was of a poor standard. The guide was excellent and we enjoyed the tour. The road to Assos was a bit unnerving but the coach drivers were brilliant.

I undertook this trip as a solo passenger. Transfers were on time and our guide was friendly and caring. Her knowledge of the island's history and places of interest was next to none. The trip was well expedited and excellently managed with all aspects catered for the guests. I thoroughly enjoyed this day and would highly recommend it to anybody who wishes to expand their knowledge of Kefalonia. Well done TUI.

We personally would have preferred more time in Asos because it was such a beautiful place The three course meal was very average and we would have preferred to have the freedom to choose where we wanted to eat The rest of the tour was excellent though and the guide was very proactive
