What to expect

This is an excursion which will take you over 300 KM into the Gambia and it also gives you a chance of seeing most parts of the country and old monuments, such as the famous Stone Circles.

ITINERARY

Day 1: After an early departure from your hotel, you will head straight for the ferry terminal in Banjul to cross Barra located on the North bank of The Gambia.Our first stop will be Fort Bullen which is the first antislavery fort built. Here you will enjoy a guided tour that will introduce you to the history of the place.

After a short coffee break, continue to Farafenni market, Lumo, which is a relatively busy market. We will then stop at the Wassu Stone circles the largest concentration of stone circles seen anywhere in the world, built between the third century B.C. and the sixteenth century AD.

From here we will head to Kuntaur for a 4 hours boat trip along the River Gambia. Enjoy your lunch while sailing along the mangroves swamps and be lucky enough to spot hippos, monkeys and crocodiles.The first day of our trip ends at the Jang Jang Burreh Camp. This is a traditional camp, built in African huts style. All accommodation are en-suite. Enjoy a folkloric music performance by the villagers during dinner.

Day 2: The next day, wake up and walk around the camp for bird watching and some wildlife spotting. After breakfast, we leave the camp for a stop to the village of Georgetown, locally called Jang Jang Burreh. This village is also the administrative center for the central river division.
