What to expect

Visit North Macedonia’s most prestigious monastery, which is located deep in the forest. A medieval place where monks isolate themselves from the rest of the modern world, so they can devote themselves entirely to their faith. The monastery households one of the biggest and finest wood-carved iconostases in the world. According to legends this iconostasis is a source of many ancient secrets. After some free time and optional lunch, you continue the journey towards the Duff Waterfalls. While entering the Natural Park of Mavrovo, which is the biggest in the whole Balkan, the path will lead you to the village of Rostushe and the canyon of the Rostushka river. At some points this canyon has a stunning dept of 100 meters. While enjoying this short walk, our guide will provide you astonishing tales about the flora and fauna of the National Park of Mavrovo. Afterwards, you will be brought back to Ohrid. Interesting fact: Did you know that the name Macedonia, nowadays north and south, is mentioned several times in the bible and is one of the most concentrated with monasteries and churches in the whole world?!

Excellent

It's s a very long and windy road the majority of the trip. Brief stop on way to look across a lake. Then a petrol station stop to use the toilet/buy refreshments. Onwards to the starting point to walk to/from the fall which takes an hour overall and is a challenging walk in places. Then to Monastery, beautiful place but was disappointed hardly any time here (40 mins and 10 of those were in toilet queue). Then whisked to restaurant where food was nice. Great driver and host and enjoyable day.

Great

The monastery was fantastic but think it needs to be made clear the walk is quite challenging and in our opinion dangerous it parts, very unsafe underfoot, would consider it more climbing at times and handrails that are there are loose and unsafe

Great

Comfortable coach, great driver and tour guide (Ziggy). Long journey but plenty of information given about the surroundings. We didn't need such a long stop at the petrol station. The hike to the waterfall was wonderful. A bit tough in places for me, but not insurmountable. Definitely worth the walk. The monestry was fab. We were able to sit in for mass. The food at the restaurant was good and reasonably priced.

Enjoyed it all. Our guide Jordan was so helpful on the walk, when I have a little difficulty with poor eyesight on the trail. We saw and learned a lot about the country. The traditional restaurant stop was lovely too, with lots of nice small plates.

Poor

The walk was totally unsafe. Where there were handrails they were rough with rusted screws and nails. The stop at the monastery was far too short - we were given 20 minutes for the visit.

Great

This walk was challenging and although parts of it were easy the steep inclines were slippery and not for the faint hearted. I walk 15 km a week but the rises in this walk were not easy. I think this should be made clearer to those booking the trip The monastery was stunning and well worth the visit . The guide was excellent. Knowledgeable and friendly

Average

Great

Walk to waterfall was very pleasant there are a few steep parts so shoes required and not suitable if you have mobility difficulties. Trip moves onto monastery then lunch which is optional but as there is nil else there you need to take money at least for a drink. Check with provider re pick up time. Guide was excellent.

Absolute aanrader. Mooie kleine wandeling, beetje cultuur en heel goed eten voor echt een laage prijs. Super vriendelijke gids. BEDANKT.
