Of course, the highlight of the trip is the magnificent Askja Caldera in the Dyngjufjoll Mountains, it is a 50 km2 subsidence cauldron formed when an eruption caused the roof of the magma chamber in the central volcano to subside. The caldera contains the Víti crater where it is sometimes possible to swim in the Summer.
