Introducing Tivat

Located in the southwest of the Bay of Kotor, the coastal town of Tivat is most famous for the Port of Montenegro. Unlike the other cities in Montenegro, think Kotor, Budva or Perast, Tivat is relatively new and does not contain an Old Town. Instead, this chic city boasts a glamorous port housing super yachts, surrounded by a posh promenade with a designer shops and rows of luxury apartments.

Begin your time in Tivat walking along the marina, checkout the million-dollar boats, take a seat at a cafe and enjoy some incredible people-watching. Then, continue to the Maritime Heritage Museum to learn more about the city in its early Navy days as home to the famed Arsenal shipyard. Outside the museum, you'll be able to tour two Yugoslav submarines in dry dock, climb on top via a steel staircase then go inside!

Stroll through the city center to find the remaining traces of history at the Renaissance Summer House Buca originating from the XVII century. This summer 'cottage' belonged to the Kotor noble family Buca, and included 5 facilities: residential facility, economic house, church, a chapel dedicated to Sveti Mihailo (St. Michael) as well as the porch. Today the location has been converted into a gallery space, with each building holding separate exhibitions from ancient Roman weapons, an ethnographic hall to a collection of jewelry and traditional national costumes.

Don't miss the opportunity to hop in a boat and explore the neighboring islands of St. Marko island, Our Lady of Mercy or Ostrvo Cvijeca (Island of Flowers). For the more adventurous traveller jouney up mountain Vrmac, overlooking Tivat, for great hiking, mountain biking or extreme canyoning.
