Introducing Gdynia

Originally a farming and fishing village, it became a seaside resort town in the beginning of the 20th century. The coastline and the surrounding hills have been attracting many nature lovers and the city has been ranked numerous times as one of the best cities to live in Poland for the quality of life. Gdynia is also well known for its festivals. Every year the city hosts the main Polish film festival and the Open'er Festival, one of the biggest contemporary music festivals in Europe. The city itself is quite young and its center is full of modernist style buildings that will amaze you. The oldest building is the 13th century St. Michael Archangel's Church. The 2 museum ships anchored in the harbour attract many visitors as does the amazing 1.5-kilometre-long promenade leading from the marina in the city centre to the beach.
