What to expect
Reached only when it's low tide via a coral rock road, the small island of Uzi is a haven for nature lovers. This conservation area of mangroves and coral reefs will be the setting for this full day private tour where you'll be immersed in local culture in Uzi village, visit the Zanzibar Butterfly Centre and Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park as part of it.
With its mangrove forests, sea grass beds, coral reefs and biodiversity, you'll not be short of things to see in Uzi. You'll cross when the tide is low and set off on a guided tour into local heritage and culture at Uzi village, a rural Swahili village, and around. You'll witness crafts like weaving, carpentry, bee farming and seaweed farming while learning about the sites.
Hereafter you'll make your way to the Butterfly Centre near Jozani Chwaka Bay National Park for a 30-minute guided tour. The exhibit consists of a netted tropical garden with hundreds of butterflies, all of which are native species to Zanzibar. You'll finally arrive at the forest in Jozani Chwaka National Park that's home to endangered red colobus monkeys, bush babies, duikers, butterflies and birds. Your own guide will be on hand to help you find them and fill you in on their habits and more.
