Spoleto is a beautiful town in southern Umbria nestled between the verdant Valnerina, Monteluco and the Umbrian plain. Over the centuries and until the unification of Italy, it was a very important city: the capital of a Lombard kingdom first, the seat of a papal delegation later and the cultural center of central-southern Italy from the Renaissance onwards.
The glorious past of Spoleto has left many traces in every corner of the historic center: the Rocca Albornoziana, the imposing fortress symbol of the city, the Romanesque Church of San Gregorio Maggiore, the Monastery of St. Ponziano, patron saint of Spoleto, the 13th-century Oil Tower and many other palaces that will take you on a journey back in time.
