At the Zaanse Schans there are over 600 active windmills still in use today, this is the only place in the Netherlands with so many active windmills. Explore these beautiful windmills and also see the original wooden houses, barns and shops.
Go inside one of the windmills with entrance included in the price of your tour, then visit a cheese-making factory and stroopwafel factory. Here you can see how the Dutch cheese and waffles are made.
The next stop is Holland’s best-known fishing village, Volendam. Explore the old harbor filled with medieval ships. Tour the village with your private guide and discover the Doolhof and Oude Kom quarters, known as the most authentic depiction of a traditional Dutch fishing village.
After the tour, your guide will take you to a shoemaker who works with wood. Here you can enjoy a first-hand experience, watching a shoemaker make clogs.
The last stop of the tour is Marken, popular for its characteristic stilt houses. Marken is also home to a beautiful 19th-century lighthouse and Netherland’s most popular Sitje Boes gift shop that was formerly owned and run by, ‘The Uncrowned Queen of Marken’.
