River Madu Boat Ride and Galle City Tour
Galle, the jewel of Sri Lanka, is an intoxicating blend of cultures and architectural styles. As our guide Dinesh puts it, ‘In common with its eclectic building styles, Galle Fort is home to many nationalities and faiths. Still today there's a melting pot of cultures within the ramparts, reflecting its historic role as a place of trade and transit.' As well as exploring old Galle, you will spot wildlife on a River Madu boat ride and visit a mask museum. Our journey begins at Balapitiya with a boat ride on the River Madu to see the biodiversity of the surrounding wetlands, which are home to almost 20 species of birds and a wide variety of reptiles and amphibians, too. With luck, you should be able to spot a range of species during a river safari that'll also take you through mangrove forests. The Madu is dotted with 64 islets, and island hopping is part of the tour. Next up it's the Ambalangoda Mask Museum, a testament to Sri Lanka's rich cultural heritage. ‘The museum showcases traditional masks used in rituals and dramas – each one tells a story,' says Dinesh. After the museum visit we'll head to historic Galle. It will enchant you with its layered heritage, quaint streets and hives of artistic activity. Check out the old Dutch church and the beautiful white mosque at the ramparts by the sea. Oh, and the beaches aren't bad, either. Lunch will be in Galle, and you'll be able to visit a moonstone mine in Meetiyagoda if you'd like, before a final stop at a turtle hatchery.

Road of the Kasbahs 4×4 Tour with Lunch in Aït Benhaddou
The sands of the High Atlas are sprinkled with silver screen stardust. On this epic tour, you'll travel by 4x4 to Telouet, rumble across the dizzying Tizi n'Tichka mountain pass and visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Aït Benhaddou. It's a blockbuster. Youssef, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘I'm from the village of Tamdaght, just 6km from kasbah Aït Benahdou – a red clay village so untouched it feels like you stepped into a movie. Living here, films became a normal part of our lives. I boosted my income when I was a student by working as an extra.'Your 4x4 adventure in the Atlas Mountains kicks off with a scenic drive via Taddart to Telouet – a crumbling kasbah on the former caravan route that linked Marrakech to the Sahara. Then, with views over Aït Benhaddou, you'll break for a tasty lunch freshly prepared with locally sourced produce. Afterwards, your guide will take you inside the ksar walls of the kasbah, where Hollywood films such as Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia were filmed. This is one of Morocco's finest examples of earthen clay architecture. For the return trip you have the ascent to the spectacular Tizi n'Tichka pass to look forward to. Youssef says, ‘Tizi n'Tichka means “difficult mountain pasture” in Berber, and you'll soon find out why. It reaches the altitude of 2,212m with lots of switchbacks.' Once over the pass, the road descends through scenic valleys, passing villages and palm groves, before arriving in Marrakech.

Rock of Gibraltar Tour with Dolphin Watching Cruise
A quirky potpourri of the familiar and the unusual, Gibraltar is a must-visit. This tour is a roll call of its star attractions – the Barbary apes, the Rock and Main Street. And to top it off, you'll sail around the Bay of Gibraltar for the chance to spot dolphins. Rosa, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Gibraltar's monkeys are the most accommodating wildlife around. Unlike dolphins, you don't have to search for them – they come looking for you, especially if you're holding food.'The fun kicks off with a boat trip in the bay to look out for dolphins. Three species – bottlenose, common and striped – are known to frolic in these waters. Then, back on dry land, head for a guided minibus tour of the Rock of Gibraltar, which juts 426 metres above the Mediterranean. You'll stop at Europa Point, where there are many famous monuments, a mosque and a historic Christian shrine. Plus, you'll also visit the Rock's recently renovated St Michael's Cave, which now hosts an auditorium. At the Upper Rock nature reserve, you'll meet the free-roaming Barbary apes – Europe's only wild monkeys. Rosa adds, ‘There are about 300 monkeys on the Rock. A local legend says that if the monkeys disappear, Gibraltar will stop being British.' Back at ground level, Gibraltar's town centre makes a point of being more British than Britain itself. Head to Main Street, where many of the British high street chains have outlets, for a mooch around its duty-free shops.

Romeria de los Dolores Experience in Lanzarote with Locals
Straw-hatted dancers and guitar-playing shepherds descend on the hamlet of Mancha Blanca every September for the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. And if you're in Lanzarote for the ‘romeria Virgen de los Dolores', as this pilgrimage is known, it's a must-do. Cristina, one of our local guides, says, ‘It's a once-a-year event, so the islanders take it very seriously. They don their traditional costumes and celebrate with friends and family. There's singing, dancing and lots of wine drinking. I love it and also make the pilgrimage myself.'You'll be picked up in the afternoon and transferred to Mancha Blanca. This sleepy village on the edge of Los Volcanes Nature Reserve comes to life on the Saturday closest to the 15th of September. Thousands of islanders make the trek to the dinky chapel of the ‘Virgen de los Dolores'. Many come accompanied by their farm animals, so don't surprised to find donkeys, oxen and camels milling about. The romeria traces its origins to when a priest carrying a statue of Our Lady of Sorrows miraculously halted the lava flow from an eruption and saved the village in 1736.Groups of string musicians, known as parrandas, play songs of devotion and praise to the virgin. As part of the festivities, many farmers and craftsmen set up stalls selling local products such as Malvasia wine, cheese, cactus jam and earthenware. The romeria is a great opportunity to mingle with the locals and try local specialities and contribute to the community.

Roque Nublo Walk with Tapas in Fataga Village
This tour offers a great opportunity to explore some of Gran Canaria's most fascinating natural treasures and landscapes. Your guide will accompany you to the Degollada de la Yegua viewpoint and then for a close-up visit to the towering Roque Nublo. Ana Isabel, one of our expert local guides, says, ‘Roque Nublo is a volcanic rock formation standing at 1,813 metres above sea level. The name means “clouded rock” because it is often shrouded in mist and clouds. Its striking appearance and panoramic vistas are a big part of the appeal.'First, you'll head towards the centre of the island, taking in the mesmerising landscapes of the Degollada de la Yegua, where you'll stop for a photo opportunity. This mountain pass sits at around 1,000 metres overlooking a 15km-long canyon with smooth sides and sharp, almost vertical ridges. Next, we'll make our way to the star of the tour, Roque Nublo. This mighty monolith towers over 70 metres straight up, formed by the ancient volcanic activity that produced the island itself. At Roque Nublo, you'll have free time to enjoy an easy hike to get a closer look at the rock and appreciate the 360-degree views from one of the highest points on the island. After the walk, it's time to relax and refuel with some tasty Canarian specialties in Fataga, a whitewashed village with traditional houses and a church. You can stroll around and explore its bougainvillea-clad and plant-packed alleys before we head back.
