Get a close-up look at Maya history and traditions on this off-the-beaten-track tour. You'll visit the ancient Maya city of Ek' Balam – the most recent to be opened to the public – as well as Yalcoba to swim in the cenote and a stop in Valladolid.

Ek Balam was fantastisch en echt een leuke toevoeging aan je vakantie, ja ook als je naar chichen itza bent geweest! Bij de cenote werd er zo erg geprobeerd spullen aan je te verkopen (die overigens veel duurder waren dan op andere plekken) dat het erg tegenviel. In valladolid waren we maar een half uur, hadden we ook kunnen overslaan.

De rit er naartoe ging vlot en al veel informatie gekregen van de gids onderweg. Over het ontstaan van Mexico en vooral ons gedeelte, maar ook over de aanleg van de trein. Je krijgt zo echt een goed beeld van het ‘echte Mexico’. Ek’Balam was zo sereen, er komen nog niet veel toeristen. De gids Yosy vertelde zulke goede verhalen die verder gingen dan het standaard verhaal en we hebbende tempel beklommen. Er was een overvloed aan koekjes, water en frisdrank. Koude doekjes voor na de bezichtiging.

Goede gids en chauffeur. Fijn dat je de tempels nog kom beklimmen. Echter moet je balans wel goed zijn, en natuurlijk je uithoudingsvermogen. Lunch was echt lekker en dichtbij de cenote. Zeker een aanrader. Alleen iets meer beenruimte in de bus was fijn geweest.

In Ek Balam kon je op de pyramide, 32m hoog. De trap naar boven 32cm hoog waren best stijl en je moet wel een steady voet hebben. Mis een treed en "its all over" De chukum cenote en het zwemmen erin was fantastisch! Er was een soort kabel waar je dan naar beneden rolde tot het midden van de cenote en je liet je erin vallen. Water was 22 graden. Raphael, de gids wist leuke mayaanse verhalen rond hun cultuur. Een bezoek aan een tequillafabriek, van de agaveveld tot het proeven was erg tof.
