There's a lot to see in the colonial city of Puerto Plata, and this whistle-stop tour lets you experience the highlights.

You'll take in Isabel de Torres, a mountain on the outskirts of the city, from a sky-high cable car. The mountain is almost 800 metres high and at its peak, lies a beautiful botanical garden – the world's highest in fact. You'll also visit a rum distillery, where you can taste different varieties of the Dominican Republic's most popular spirit.

Finally, you'll have time to take snapshots of the town centre. It's a jumble of pretty colonial houses, and old shops shelved with hand-rolled cigars and amber-adorned jewellery.
